Washington DC (Storch Report) — I carefully listened to President Obama’s prime time 15 minute speech last night from the White House, all of which by its optics was to be significant of something, like a strategy that was long in coming, but was never labeled as to what it really was.
Was it a War on ISIS? No, it was not a war. Was it a strategy? We don’t seem to know. I wrote a column yesterday and said it was Obama giving a speech being led by politics directed to the importance of the mid-term elections to the Democrats.
Something is going to happen, but we are not any clearer today what that is then we were yesterday, but the enemy knows what we are not going to do because we told them.
I think that’s nice that America telegraphs its strategic military actions with warnings to an Islamic terrorist group that beheads two American journalists and threatens the United States with direct warnings to Obama, “I’ll see you in New York”
That is really good sportsmanship to tell our enemy what we are going to do and what we will not do, especially after they killed 3,000 of our people 13 years ago. I mean after all it is only fair warning, it is not like we are revealing any secrets. We are just being fair with Islam.
After all they are the inferior military force and they should be given the advantage.
Shortly after I posted my column last night I received an email from the White House signed by Obama summarizing what he said. Don’t be impressed, they didn’t read my column, I received the email because I signed up on their website to see what they were saying.
And, this is what the opening salvo said: “I just addressed the nation about what the United States will do with our friends and allies to degrade and destroy the terrorist group known as ISIl (we can’t even be clear whether it’s ISIL or ISIS).
“Let’s be clear (an opening statement by Obama frequently used which is usually opaque): “While this group may call itself the ‘Islamic State,’ it is not ‘Islamic.’ No religion condones the killing of innocents, and the vast majority of ISIL’s victims have been Muslim. Nor is it a ‘state.’ It is not recognized by any government, nor by the people it subjugates.”
I was struck by this statement because it clearly labels what Obama says is going on in the Mid-East, but he fails to label his own actions or strategy about what he is going to do to counteract a group that occupies most of Iraq. If it is not a State, because of what it occupies, it could be a State within a State.
Obama said, “This is nothing but a terrorist organization with no vision or goal other than to slaughter all who stand in its way.”
And what is our vision or goal, to “degrade or destroy” or some combination of both? What is it that we are going to do ‘degrade’ or ‘destroy,’ after all there is a difference.
Well I guess it’s not “workplace violence” as he called the slaughter of 13 on a military base in Ft. Hood.
Obama labeled what he tried to explain he was doing as a “comprehensive and sustained counter terrorism strategy.”
Airstrikes is the operative word, although there are already 1,000 US boots on the ground in Iraq and he does not rule out airstrike attacks in Syria and supporting a rebel group in that country which he knows little about.
He cites US actions in Yemen and Somalia as examples of success — they have been failures.
When John Kerry Secretary of State was asked by a CNN reporter whether it was a war, he said some may see it that way, but it is a “counter terrorism operation.”
My god, this administration can’t even call a spade a shovel. When you fire missiles at a declared enemy and kill them that is a “war” and you don’t even have to look it up in the dictionary to determine it’s correct.
Obama doesn’t need to parse words with political manipulation, Americans need to hear the truth from our president and when it is not delivered you can be sure they will see through the deception and mendacity. The polls are reflecting what is being said.
Perhaps Obama should consult with his wife Michelle, after all she has done well with labeling school lunches and received widespread acceptance among the kids who have given her thumbs down on veggies.
