Sanibel Fl (Storch Report) — The United States Coast Guard out of St. Petersburg Fl said today at a press conference that a debris field from a missing 29-foot sailboat was found approximately 33 miles off of Sanibel Island this morning.

The Coast Guard is continuing the search for occupants of the 29 foot sailboat. Those reported to be on board were Ace Kimberly,45, from Sarasota and his children Roger Kimberly,13, Donny Kimberly,15, and Rebecca Kimberly,17.

According to a brother of Ace, they were last heard from Sunday afternoon offshore of Englewood where they were experiencing a squall and 6 foot waves. They were headed to Ft. Myers to do some boat repairs.

The Coast Guard reported that the debris field consisted of 6 life jackets, a tarp, four water bottles tied together, tennis shoes, a basketball and a propane tank.  According to the brother who is in Ft. Myers the debris correlated to what was on his brother’s boat. He did say they were towing two kayaks and that there were 7 life jackets on board.

The search for the missing boat didn’t begin until Tuesday, when the boat failed to arrive in Ft. Myers and a concerned family member called the Coast Guard.

The sailboat was 29 feet in length with a center board and a small outboard motor.  Apparently the inboard engine was not working.
