When the right of protest violates others rights as well as the law, the leaders of this nation are clearly not upholding their oath of office.

This is what is happening in New York City with the anti ‘Occupy Wall Street’ protesters who are now being asked to leave a park they have been occupying and trashing for more than three weeks.

This only came about when the owner of Zucotti Park, Brookfield Properties, sent a letter to Police Commissioner Ray Kelly asking police “to clear the park” and to “assist” on an “ongoing basis” to keep the area safe and clean.  The letter went on to say the “trespassing” of the protesters has created a “health and public safety issue” that must be addressed immediately.

Up until then Libertarian Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, said the protesters could stay ‘indefinitely’.  This despite the fact that hundreds of complaints and emails have been received from local citizens complaining about, “lewdness, groping, drinking and drug use, the lack of safe access to and usage of the park, ongoing noise at all hours, unsanitary conditions and offensive odors,” as was reported by NBC.

However, last night the Mayor told the protesters they would have to leave the park by Friday for sanitation reasons so crews can clean the park.  It was not clear whether the protestors will be allowed back.

The protests have already cost the city $2 million in overtime pay for police.  The “Occupy Wall Street” movement has spread to other cities including Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia Seattle and Los Angeles.

The protests have become a political issue with Republicans accusing the demonstrators of waging “class warfare” and receiving support and empathy from President Barack Obama who participates in his own form of class warfare in his wealth redistribution policy.

More than 700 demonstrators have been arrested since the movement’s inception and it is time for citizens to exercise their rights.  The cost of this protest is well into the millions and most likely will reach into the billions at a time when cities and taxpayers can least afford the leniency of upholding the law and our leaders upholding their oath of office.

There is a way to peacefully protest without breaking the law and violating others rights.  Obviously common sense is not being used by the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ movement, nor is it being exercised by our liberal leaders.
