When using the word dysfunctional we often associate it with ‘family’, why isn’t it more often associated with the word ‘world’, because that’s the global environment in which we live?
And, wouldn’t it be logical to think that if you lived in a dysfunctional ‘world’ that this dysfunction would trickle down to ‘family’?
In my opinion I think we have a dysfunctional President, who apparently came from a dysfunctional ‘family’. And somehow this seems to be a juxtaposition to the point I am trying to make!
And now he is on his way to creating a dysfunctional nation and plans to put us all on Ritalin for ADHD, but will refuse to pay for the medication under Obamacare.
Perhaps it’s a chicken and egg thing?
The world is in dire strait’s, but I can’t figure out whether it came from the bottom up, or the top down.
Look what’s happening in Greece, I mean after all, this is an ancient country and society with all kind’s of ancient knowledge. But they are in bankruptcy, as we in the US are on the verge of, and I wonder could it be all about the entitlements they have become used to?
Perhaps it’s all about Obama’s concept of wealth redistribution evolving from all those great Greek philosophers?
You know, I get confused and feel a bit like Columbo, you know that late detective, Peter Falk, who always had one more question.
He played dumb but we all knew he was smart until he said a dumb thing.
I mean how do I deal with all this dysfunction and also understand Chavez of Venezuela, the Castro’s of Cuba, Amadinejad of Iran, Lee Myung-Bak of South Korea or for that matter Islam, Muslims and terrorists and Obama’s rational for all these wars?
I tried calling Columbo, but he didn’t answer his phone.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI’ m not sure what point your trying to make but to say that your confused is very clear. First, Obamas’ father was a tragic figure. A highly educated, intelligent Kenyan governmental economist who became alcoholic and finally died in an automobile accident. But Barack at this time was being raised by his mothers loving and nurturing family and resulted in his attending an Ivy League college and than a first rate law school. A constitutional law professor, community organizer, state senator and president of the U.S. If this be dysfunction than we should try to raise all of our children dysfunctionally. What achievements. If by dysfunction you mean a child of biracial parents then that’s unfortunate. But that may be the world you live in. I’m not going to go into presidential history but you can go back to George Washington who had numerous siblings from different parents. Father died when George was eleven and he had a mother who was a nasty whack job who gave him grief his entire life and never would acknowledge his remarkable achievements. But George did OK.
Columbo isn’t going to answer the phone but Poirot will.
Gee, I think you’re taking life too seriously! Actually, I was thinking of contacting Inspector Clouseau before Poirot.
I would just love to know how “NORM” feels about the current state of affairs with this country! While Obama’s family functionality doesn’t mean a thing to me and I agree with his analogy of George Washington in comparison I just don’t get how he finds so much contradiction in your columns. This economy is in the shitter and I can’t find much of anything to feel all warm and fuzzy about with this administration. Not that I feel that good about the republicans either.
Walt-My feelings about this country’s state of affairs is anything but warm and fuzzy. More like cold and bleak. Not quite hopeless because I believe the country can recover in spite of modern day politics. But recovery is many years off regardless of democrat, republican, left or right. This is a very small space so I’m confined to limiting my comments.
Concerning Don’s columns I have no problems with them. I have a high regard for his honesty an putting his thoughts on the line. Obviously, I have significant differences with his positions. Nothing wrong with that. His accuracy is often off base. For example, in todays article he says that Obama said we Americans have to eat our peas to help with the deficit. Obama very clearly was referring to congress having to swallow what may be distasteful and therefore compromise on rigid positions for the good of the country. But it’s his ball so he can play any way he likes.
Some facts about peas. If the Congress and the President eats their peas it will only be a matter of time before the taxpayer has to eat theirs!
