It came out loud and clear this evening in a 13 minute speech by President Obama that his draw down plans for the troops in Afghanistan had more to do with his survival than those of the military.
Very frankly I found his speech to lack the smell test, the laugh test and the people test that no longer makes him believable, by delivering such outrageous political oriented oratory that fails the litmus test of sensible credibility.
He wants to draw down our troops in Afghanistan by 10,000 this Summer and by 33, 000 by 2011, the known height of the battle period in Afghanistan and just by happenstance a year before the 2012 presidential election.
General Petraeus, as has been widely reported, did not agree with this strategy nor its timing.
It was duly noted that there was no reference to General Petraeus’ in Obama’s speech this evening.
It was clearly a political speech couched with points of Afghanistan success, nearly ‘Mission Accomplished’ rhetoric, but we didn’t hear from the president about the risk rewards ratio; namely, the potential of significant loss of life by our military during this period of troop withdrawal.
We have lost 1.500 of our military in this war and many more maimed. As a nation builder in Afghanistan we have failed. Many another country before us have tried and also failed. It is a nation of illiterates, and it is even questionable whether or not the people are trainable to defend themselves.
There are more goats than flushing toilet’s.
This evening Obama sounded as though he was saying the war was over, but the fighting is still going on. Whatever this means, history will eventually tell us, for the truth prevails and someone will disclose in a book the true revelations and motivations of Obama’s speech this evening.
For now, you just have to consider my political analysis. It seems to me, Obama has taken a good look at his poll numbers and he is looking out for his survival in 2012, and not the military’s survival in the interim.
