Realizing how important the Jewish vote is to his reelection in 2012, President Obama tried to kiss and make nice in a speech today before the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, an important Jewish lobby group, to try and clarify a controversy he stirred up last Thursday when he suggested that peace talks between Palestine and Israel start by going back to pre 1967 borders.

Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu summarily rejected the proposal in a vist to the White House the following day with words and body language that made one think the two leaders were sitting on a glacier rather than in the Oval office.

Obama said today that he didn’t need two former advisers, mentioning Emanuel and Axelrod, to tell him the proposal would create controversy.

Well, if he knew what it would do why did he do it?

Primarily because he can talk the talk as I have said before, but fails to walk the walk with any meaningful form of action.

Oh, he says all the right things even in his recovery speeches, for example: “we have an unbreakable and ironclad bond with Israel”  and “there is unwavering support” but in doing so he tries to explain away what he believes was not accurately reported and the need to clarify with softness that which we didn’t get wrong and didn’t need to  be clarified.

Did Netanyahu also get it wrong with the rest of the world?

I don’t think so Mr. President!

Obama tried to explain away his position by saying his proposal said there should be two states and that negotiations should begin with pre 1967 borders with both Palestine and Israel mutually agreeing upon land swaps.

This at best is a president that continues to demonstrate his inexperience, both domestically and in foreign policy.  Palestine refuses to recognize the legitimacy of Israel as a State.  Palestine is controlled by Hamas, which would be the equivalent of Israel asking the United States to negotiate peace with Al Qaeda, a terrorist organization, but instead Obama, rightfully so took out the Al Qaeda leader in a covert operation in a foreign land.

Words Obama offered today were comforting to those of Jewish faith – convert the words to votes – and the people of Israel as one ally speaking to another, but at the same time disingenuous and reason for concern.

For example he said, “failure to try for peace is unacceptable; the Middle East doesn’t allow for procrastination; technology will make it difficult for Israel to defend itself; we cannot wait another decade for peace, and friends can disagree.”  Well if there was something to disagree about, which there was, why the need for a clarification?

Although, Obama says “Israel’s legitimacy is not up for debate”,  he doesn’t seem to understand two basic issues: Palestine is run by Hamas, a terrorist regime and Hamas/Palestine does not recognize Israel’s legitimacy.  Why should Israel engage in a discussion about borders when they are not recognized as a legitimate state by their neighbors?
