The Donald must be for real this time around for he once before threatened a run for the presidency and fizzled like a missile that failed to explode at a 4th of July fireworks.
Americans do not like to be played, like a playboy playing the field for the next catch to be bedded. And this is the perception of him by many.
As a billionaire, landlord, hotel magnate, TV star and huckster, having married three-times to trophy wives, he has quite an image to overcome to project himself into the oval office.
How does he negate, or perhaps change this perception of his persona, while making some valid points about the lack of leadership in the White House today?
No one knows more than the Donald the importance of public relations. He uses it daily to sell his business enterprises and a brand worth billions.
However, because he’s a deal maker making deals for his own objectives, what would it to take to make him a statesman on a global basis in behalf of his country?
The Donald is right on a number of issues, for which he has taken Obama to task. I happen to think he’s right on Libya, if we’re not there for oil, what are we doing there? On putting the United States first, and promoting it as the greatest country and not apologizing for its past actions, here and abroad, is the job of the president and if he doesn’t believe it the person in the White House doesn’t belong to be there. By again returning the US to the country it once was through leadership and fiscal responsibility is a goal Trump advocates. And by knowing how to make a deal, which he is an expert at, I do believe he would have averted the near budget shutdown we just went through long before the 11th hour. The Donald knows not to spend more than he has and not thrust the country into a $14 trillion deficit owing our very existence to China. And on foreign relations he has proven he knows what he is doing by making deals no one else has accomplished, least of all Obama.
He is right when he says President Obama is not a leader and the only thing he has achieved is winning election to the office he holds. He says the president ‘is far better at campaigning than at governing’ and he won’t get any disagreement on this point because Obama has proven it himself over and over again since he has been in office. He didn’t know when to stop campaigning and become president.
“It’s been a terrible presidency,” Trump says, and I again think he will receive a wide consensus of acceptance for this view.
Now, on the issue of whether Obama is a citizen or not, an issue Trump’s advisers told him not to take on, he had better be right.
There is a large undercurrent of opinion in this country that doesn’t believe Obama is a citizen. Furthermore there are many that believe he is Muslim. And so far Trump has tapped into this audience, which is reflected in recent polls. I just hope his research, which he says he is conducting, uncovers the truth.
The paper Obama has presented as proof that he was born in the United States is called a certificate of live birth and as Trump says, it’s ‘something that’s easy to get,’ but it is not a birth certificate that proves he was born in the United States, which is a requirement to be president.
Now for his image, it is one that he must stand up to, defend and turn into a positive in order to dispel the current perception. He is seen as a billionaire landlord, hotel magnate, television star, celebrity, playboy and now a self-described Tea Partier and one that is known for flamboyant, and extraordinary self promotion.
The common man may admire his success, but has difficulty identifying with it. How will he overcome this? He is perceived as a corporate mogul, unions will not court him for this very reason alone, nor will blacks or Hispanics for this and a variety of other reasons, all a significant block of votes.
The Donald has the name recognition, but is that perception behind this name recognition good or bad, can this image be one that will appeal to a cross-section of America in order to be electable?
He has the money to pay to play, because the next round, as Obama has promised will be a billion dollar campaign. Obama will again be spending others money, and perhaps, if he is re-elected to a second term, to create a new world order with George Soros. This, in itself, is enough reason to consider the Donald.
Trump is a fresh face on the political scene, the Republicans need that, instead of rounding up the usual retread of characters. But then again, Obama was a fresh face also, and look how quickly we tired of that.
Let’s just hope the Donald is not, once again trumpeting the ‘Trump’ name or ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ for ratings that are more phenomenal then they already are, and just making noise to achieve personal objectives?
He says he cares about the country and considers himself a very proud member of the Tea Party movement. “I’m proud of some of the ideas they put forth,” he said. “And, the big idea is they want to stop this ridiculous, absolutely killer of spending that’s going on.”
Let’s hope he throws his hat in the ring this time around, because, if nothing else, the GOP needs a fresh face on the political scene to consider and the country needs some new ideas and policies to once again make it what it once was on the global scene.
