The radio drama of the 1930′s called, ‘The Shadow’, knew just about everything about anything. I somehow can’t help but think that we need him now more than ever before, because nobody seems to know anything about what is going on in Libya, least of all those delivering messages from the White House.
“Who knows what evil lurks . . . ?” was the calling card for the Shadow because it was he that knew.
Perhaps President Obama needs a new Czar in the White House, the Shadow, alias, Lamont Cranston.
I don’t think these fictional characters are around any more other than in the creative minds of those that would listen to such mysteries and foster the images of good versus evil and the outcome in words wouldn’t disappoint the images of the minds of the listener in those radio days.
The question that is paramount in the current events of today and the coalition actions in creating a war against Libya is, “Who’s In Charge”.
Well, the catalyst, the United States, forming the international coalition and acting under UN resolution 1973 wants another country to take the lead — Obama wants out.
Meanwhile stories moving across the wires say that there are tensions with Britain because Gates rebukes them for trying to assassinate Gaddafi.
Tbe French want to handle war by ‘committee’ to oversee operations.
Germany pulls its equipment out of NATO over the campaign’s direction.
The Italians have accused the French of backing NATO in exchange for oil contracts.
UK ministers say war could last ’30 years’.
Italy threatens to ‘take back control’ of bases used by allies unless NATO is put in charge of mission.
Meanwhile the Russians accuse the US of being on a bombing ‘crusade’.
Well it’s no surprise to anyone that you can’t run a war by committee, or for that matter anything else.
There is no question as Henry Kissinger said this evening on Fox, “it is incomprehensible that we launched such an operation.”
He said that we will be, “judged by the outcome of American actions.”
He said that the real issue is in the Gulf is who will be the dominant country?
Kissinger said, ” Iran is the focal point . . . Libya could very well be a distraction to the objective.”
I don’t know, but I think Obama should put the CIA on the case and find out the cell number of Lamont Cranston.
For it’s unequivocal, “The Shadow Knows.”
