President Obama is offering doctors in America an incentive to discuss with their patients an end of life plan – money!

Obama will achieve the same goal, which was dropped by Democrats from health care legislation – ‘death panels’, through regulation that will become effective January 1.

That’s right, what Republicans seized as an issue over the health care debate to cut off care for the critically ill, was dropped from the legislation, but Obama will achieve the same objective through regulation.

It will result in a two pronged policy that will provide doctors with an incentive to bring up the the end of life subject while the patient still has the faculties to understand what is being said and then Medicare regulation will provide the one two punch to death.

According to a lead story in the New York Times today, “The new policy is included in a huge Medicare regulation setting payment rates for thousands of services including arthroscopy, mastectomy and X-rays.”

This will clearly put the elderly between a rock and a hard place, because under the plan these procedures would not be paid for.

For example  if you agree to such a plan, if your heart stops no one will do anything to restart it.  This has happened to many a  person with cardiovascular disease and when the heart was restarted the patient went on to live a quality life style for many years.

Many in opposition to the original legislation and now today’s regulation believe this is the first step down a treacherous path toward government-encouraged euthanasia.

When this issue was last raised, Obama said that nothing in the bill would, “pull the plug on grandma.”

This is not true.

According to the Times report and Dr. Maria J. Silveira of the University of  Michigan, the following questions would be asked by the doctors engaging in the Obama incentive:

  • If you have another heart attack and your heart stops beating, would you want us to try to restart it?
  • A patient dying of emphysema might be asked, do you want to go on a breathing machine for the rest of your life?
  • And a patient with incurable cancer might be asked, when the time comes, do you want us to use technology to try and delay your death?

Some say the regulation, which would allow annual discussions as part of the wellness visit would help patients ensure that they get the care one wants; while others say that such end of life discussions would encourage patients to forgo or curtail care, thus hastening death.

Turning doctors into used car salesmen to hasten death is an abhorrent thought.  Not really any different than detail men from pharmaceutical companies offering doctors monetary incentives, in the form of vacations, to prescribe their drugs.  This practice is now disallowed by FDA regulation.

People are living too long for the good of the country, hastening death with incentives is a goal that Obama will implement that may make his socialized health care program economical, which by all analysis is not possible.

Perhaps we can look further into this program and find trickle down regulations that will impact the young by denying procedures that would further prolong life under the Marxist concept of health care for all?

Somehow President Obama, this heartless doctor-incentive regulation belies your comment about, “pulling the plug on Grandma.”
