Can the average person today keep pace with the 24 hour news cycle whether they be 21 or 71?
More importantly do they really care? And, when is it that they care?
There was a sign of caring during the mid-term elections this year. President Obama got the message, because he doesn’t want to be a one-term president.
Is it only then that we get the message, when it affects us personally?
Sound bite after sound bite Obama said he was not going to extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy. He was interested in growing government for the middle class.
Well he did so with Obamacare, stimulus and bailouts and the economy wasn’t looking too good, but the mid-term elections came along and now he has a framework for extending the Bush tax cuts for all after spending two years Bush-bashing. Is it because small business provides the majority of jobs and their owners make more than $250,000 a year?
But now it’s the GOP holding the ‘American people hostage’ because they won the the mid-term elections. But he promises, pandering to the left, “that the game is not over.”
I guess this means that the ‘deal’ he worked out only lasts for two years, when he is up for re-election.
We are only in the seventh inning and as Yogi said, “It’s not over until it’s over.”
Now there is this guy Julian Assange, a citizen of Australia, the founder of WikiLeaks who was arrested today in the United Kingdom for charges that even his lawyer can’t comprehend.
Nevertheless he is in jail, because Sweden wants to talk to him about some sexual relations he allegedly had with two women, one of which held a party for him. However, in the meantime he exposed on some three occasions through WikiLeaks classified cable documents from US diplomats that were embarrassing, not necessarily inaccurate, nor previously undisclosed, nor denied by the US government.
Some of these documents allegedly came from US Army Pfc. Bradley Manning, who also has not been charged, but is arrested and will presumably go before a court martial on espionage charges.
Imagine a Pfc in the Army having access to all of these classified documents? The best I could obtain as a Seaman in the United States Navy with top secret clearance, was the weather report. To give you a reason why – remember the landing in Normandy during World War II.
Now as the world spins, what is this all about? Is it espionage as some allege? Is it political? Is Sweden helping the US politically? Where is the Justice Department and their charges of alleged espionage? Why has it taken the US so long to act? Where are the comments from the White House?
Yes, perhaps the world is spinning too fast – there are holes in this story too many to fill without being transparent.
I don’t think Obama will be running on this word for a second term.
Down here in Florida, there are ladies making their way to the super markets with walkers to get food, others playing golf in their 90′s, bridge, bingo, boccie ball and making it to the early bird special.
Perhaps they are more comfortable with the clicker than the computer. But they care. They care about their children, their grandchildren, great grandchildren and America, remember they were part of the Great Generation, a thought of importance on December 7th some 69 years ago.
There was once a soap on TV called, “As The World Turns”, but I believe it turned at a slower pace than today and people had a chance to catch their breath.
