Although it was an evening for tea for the GOP; today should be a day of contrition and  humility for President Obama who should make a  sincere effort to reach across the aisle for bipartisan solutions to move this country from the dilemma in which it is in – something he promised while campaigning for the office he holds but failed to deliver.

This election proved to be a referendum against Obama’s policies.

The real question, however, is whether Obama has it in his character to prove to this nation that he is a leader and can do what he promised but couldn’t deliver in his first two years in office.

Sixty percent of this nation believes he is taking this country in the wrong direction.

Yesterday’s electorate clearly sent this message to the Oval office; whether Obama will get it or not is questionable.

Many left wing pundits believe the slam dunk victory for Republicans had to do with jobs and the economy Obama inherited, but this message has worn thin with the people.  It also had to do with a failed stimulus, that didn’t produce jobs, it had to do with Obamacare, which the public rejected and wants to repeal, it had to do with bailouts, financial reform, takeover of banks and corporations.  It had to do with big government, which the public doesn’t want, but what Obama advocates.  And lastly it had to do with spending and a deficit of $13 trillion and a penchant by Obama to spend more on social programs.

How we can get bipartisan agreement on these critical issues will be up to a leader – the question is whether Obama is up to the challenge.

It was projected that the Republicans would sweep the House, but not necessarily the Senate and that’s basically how it netted out.

However, yesterday’s GOP sweep of the House, is the largest repudiation of the White House since 1932.

The win for the GOP was historic.  It not only was a repudiation of Obama, but the entire Democratic party.

Today, Obama will hold a press conference at 1 PM and we will see what spin the administration puts on these election results.

Whatever the Obama spin, Democratic Senators up for re-election in 2012 will reflect upon last night, when Obama is also up for re-election

The impact has been profound.

The republicans enjoyed their tea this evening, and the Tea Party has proven to be a  powerful grass roots movement that all parties will be forced to contend with.

The results of last night’s mid-term election results proved my contention that we have an intelligent electorate, for they have returned a viable check and balance to our government.

Obama’s agenda is dead. The only option left for the Obama agenda are moves that he can make from the Oval office without legislation.  The GOP has de factio control of the Senate and that is a better place to be politically than to have total control in 2012.  The senators that were not up for re-election last night will be closely examining their positions in supporting Obama policies when up for election with him in 2012.

Today, we must examine the Obama spin to assess its contrition, its humility and how far he is willing to extend an olive branch to bipartisanship.
