When President Obama was a candidate he opposed the Iraq war, opposed the Bush surge, but tonight called the operation a success, failed to credit Bush for it, in a stiff, passionless, boring and ill-advised speech, delivering a message to the American people that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are nothing but a distraction to him.
The speech was ill-advised and raised the question in most who watched it, why did he give it?
Noting that he was sitting behind the desk that President George W. Bush sat behind, he threw him an olive branch by saluting him for his commitment to the troops and his love of country and commitment to our security, but failed to give him credit for the surge that stabilized the country to the degree that the Iraqis can defend themselves.
However, the government in Iraq is still not a stable one, and it is questionable if it ever will be.
Nevertheless, Obama promised that there would be no more open-ended wars, which must be a comfort to our enemies.
Clutching his hands and reading off the teleprompter on the camera he was glaring into, he gave a passionless speech clearly demonstrating that his heart is not in the missions in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Segueing to the domestic front, after praising Bush’s love of country, as though we didn’t know that, he took a shot at him by saying, “Unfortunately over the last decade we have not done what is necessary to shore up our own prosperty.” A rather disingenuous statement, when you reflect upon Obama’s support for Fannie and Freddie, two bankrupt government companies that supported giving mortgages to those that could least afford them resulting in the real estate bust and the beginning of the downfall of the nation’s economy.
Making reference to the trillions of dollars spent on wars and the fact he will be shifting a trillion to the war effort and surge in Afghanistan as a result of the draw down in Iraq, he made no mention of the trillion he spent on the stimulus program, nor the trillion he spent on health care and multiple trillions on other left wing policies since he has been in office.
It was a confusing speech at best, but one that demonstrated his passion for changing domestic policy at home.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackHonestly, the surge was a battle for improving a War, not winning it. Thank God we are getting out, what a waste of our Youth and Treasury set on a bed of lies.
I agree. But in fact, we are not anymore out of Iraq than Afghanistan. Obama’s speech was disingenuous, political and ill-advised.
