President Obama did a Mohammad Ali rope-a-dope in his interview with Bret Baier of Fox News this evening trying to stick to his health care talking points while Baier tried to link the process of the ‘deem and pass’ rule to the substance which are inextricably connected.
Obama was, arrogant, defensive and uncomfortable in a contentious interview.
Obama was at his worst, if he scored any points they were marginal talking points that we have heard for more than an agonizing year.
The news was that he was appearing on Fox, if he had the health care votes he wouldn’t have been there.
He couldn’t even tell us what ‘deals’ were in the new bill, but did say the corn husker kick back was out.
He dodged more punches than he landed.
There were many interruptions and filibusters, which Obama invoked, but claims he abhors.
Obama let the public know that he was above the process and was cornered when he was reminded that he once said he wouldn’t be able to govern as president if he had a bill passed with a 50+ 1 vote.
However, that statement didn’t seem to faze him during the interview anymore than many others that he hasn’t lived up to.
The best he got out of appearing on Fox was a stand-off with no gains, looking much like Ali at the end of his rope-a-dope career.
I don’t think Fox will be invited back to the White House for another of the likes of this contentious interview.
