It is difficult for one to extricate one from the politics of war.  We would like to believe that politicians listen to the commanders in the field.  But, we cannot forget that commanders in the field didn’t get where they are without being politicians.  As a result we have a war policy of ‘hearts  and minds’ that puts our troops in harms way.

This in my mind is an inexcusable act of unconscionable political manipulation while putting the lives of the youth of our country at a disadvantage in a state of war.

Has this been done before?  Yes, in recent history it dates back to World War II.

It is sad that it takes place – but history often repeats itself.

The unfortunate part of this analysis is that the politics are the same but the scene of war is different on the battlefield and on the political scene.

On the political scene the Obama administration doesn’t recognize the word ‘War’.

Somehow there doesn’t seem to be a war in Iraq, or Afghanistan, that is until we need to justify it in some budgetary process.

We no longer have a ‘War On Terror’ – that we once had – since 9/11.

Who is this guy named Obama that doesn’t recognize what the people of the United States recognize?

Now we, on the battlefield have something called a  ‘hearts and minds’ policy.

Interesting, we are at War in two countries, send our troops out to win these wars in which we are engaged, fight an unidentified enemy in civilian garb and ask them to operate under a new set of rules of war that puts the enemy at an advantage.

In Afghanistan our supreme fighting force, the US Marines, are asked to only fire when fired upon, to not shoot at a combatant not carrying or dropping a gun and upon capturing the enemy, only hold them for 96 hours of questioning and if they are a low level combatant turn them over to the Afghanistan police.  The police then release the enemy to return to their forces, only to kill our troops again.

Oh, and our Marines are trained to not use any ‘rough’ language during a capture.

This is Obama’s political war – not a war war.

It puts our troops in serious jeopardy.

As a result, the enemy is making adjustments based upon our very own political strategies, and as a result, are using this war plan against us.

The strategy of war is winning.  However Obama wants to win by appeasing the world in the way in which we believe in today’s multiple wars with so called morality while putting our troops in harms way by setting a strategy that is not winable

But, I ask you what is morality in a war on terror?  There is no Geneva Convention, only our political rules of ‘Hearts & Minds”.  I am not willing to serve up the lives of our son’s and daughter’s for a feeble political cause.
