Tiger Woods, profusely apologized to the world and said he was ‘deeply sorry’ for his extra marital affairs during a highly orchestrated and staged event before friends and only three wire service reporters present for a statement reading, allowing no questions, while one-mile away at a convention center some 300 journalists watched over a large movie screen at the TPC Sawgrass headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach Fl.

It was a somber eulogy-like event where for the first four minutes TV viewers had a head-on shot of the Tiger, but due to a camera failure the last nine minutes was on camera two giving viewers a profile of Woods and a portion of the audience, including his mother.  His wife Elin was not present.

At the end of the performance, which concluded without applause, he came down from the podium and hugged his mother and a few friends in the first row.

Tiger said that he and his wife Elin have started the process of discussing the damage caused by his behavior.

“As Elin pointed out to me, my real apology to her will not come in the form of words; it will come from my behavior over time.  We have a lot to discuss.  However, what we say to each other will remain between the two of us.”

Although most of the focus of Tiger’s mea culpa put the blame on his shoulders, he did show a touch of his golfing aggressiveness when stating:

“I have a lot to atone for, but there is one issue I really want to discuss.  Some people have speculated that Elin either hurt or attacked me on Thanksgiving night.  It angers me that people would fabricate a story like that.  Elin never hit me that night or any other night.  There has never been an episode of domestic violence in our marriage.  Ever.  Elin has shown enormous grace and poise throughout this ordeal.  Elin deserves praise, not blame.”

He said that some people made up things that never happened.  “They said I used performance-enhancing drugs.  This is completely and utterly false.”

Tiger said at one point, “I recognize I have brought this on myself.  And I know, above all, I am the one who needs to change.”

He said the issue was his repeated irresponsible behavior.

“I was unfaithful. I had affairs.  I cheated.   What I did was not acceptable, and I am the only person to blame.  I stopped living by the core values that I was taught to believe in.”

Woods said he knew his actions were wrong, but thought he deserved to enjoy all the temptations.  “I felt I was entitled.  Thanks to money and fame, I didn’t have to go far to find them. “

He said he plans to return to golf one day.  “I just don’t know when that day will be.  I don’t rule out that it will be this year.  When I do return, I need to make my behavior more respectful of the game.”

Tiger has been in rehab therapy for 45 days and said he plans to return to that therapy tomorrow.

Meanwhile on the west coast, a former Tiger paramour porn star, Joslyn James, appeared before the media with her publicity prone attorney, Gloria Allred, asking for an in face apology from Woods because he told her he loved her and, “I fell in love with him.”  She gave up her career for him.  Allred said her client had a three year intimate, romantic involvement with Woods and deserves an apology because he lied to her.  Further, Allred  called the Tiger statement a staged public relations event.

James had earlier said she was impregnated by Woods twice, one pregnancy resulted in an abortion the other a miscarriage.

The calling of a media event following Tiger’s statement and the issues planted by James struck a tone of palimony, although Alred denies that a suit is in the works.
