While our Mourner in Chief delivered a solemn, dignified eulogy enshrining 13 victims of last week’s massacre at Fort Hood, which he called ‘incomprehensible’, there was a ray of hope that President Obama saw the carnage for what it was when he said, “It may be hard to comprehend the twisted logic that led to this tragedy. But this much we do know – no faith justifies these murderous and craven acts. No just and loving God looks upon them with favor. For what he has done, we know that the killer will be met with justice – in this world and the next.”
Did President Obama make a reference to Jihad? Were there implications here that Allah will not take the killer, no matter the cause, to a better place?
What was the comprehension of the twisted logic? Was it the conflict between the Muslim religion the killer practiced and the war he was fighting against terror as a US soldier which involved Muslims? Did he say the Muslim faith does not justify these murderous and craven acts?
I read into this quote more than what was previously delivered by Obama, the White House, and congressional political operatives admonishing all that we shouldn’t jump to conclusions about whether this was an act of terrorism or just an act of a psychopath – but really, when you think about it – what’s the difference?
Another significant sign was Obama’s reference to War – something he has down-played since he took office. For 9 months we were void of the War on Terrorism. But today he at least acknowledged there was a war, “In today’s wars,” he said,” there is not always a simple ceremony that signals our troops’ success – no surrender papers to be signed, or capital to be claimed. But the measure of the impact of these young men and women is no less great. In a world of threats that no know borders their legacy will be marked in the safety of our cities and towns and the security and opportunity that is extended abroad. . . . Here at Fort Hood, we pay tribute to 13 men and women who were not able to escape the horror of war, even in the comfort of home.”
President Obama delivered some powerful words; I for one, as a veteran, hope he stands behind these words and the significant tribute he paid to the fallen.
But you see, it appears to me that this may have been a eulogy, where words are sometimes loosely cast-about. I truly hope not.
But there are signs in this culture that suggests ‘political correctness’ is now endemic.
We must believe in ‘diversity’ – which encourages a tolerence of people of different backgrounds.
Allow us to compare the beliefs of General George William Casey Jr., Chief of Staff of the United States Army, who also delivered a eulogy today at Fort Hood.
Now let us keep in mind Casey’ s comments, whether they be at the eulogy or on a Sunday talk show, are not void of censorship by the White House.
On Sunday Casey stressed that no assumptions should be made surrounding the motives or religious beliefs of alleged shooter Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan.
He went on to say, “We have to be careful. Because we can’t jump to conclusions now based on little snippets of information that come out. And frankly, I am worried – not worried, but I’m concerned that this increase speculation could cause a backlash against some of our Muslim soldiers. And I’ve asked our Army leaders to be on the lookout for that. It would be a shame – as great a tragedy as this was, it would be a shame if our diversity became a casualty as well.”
What! Thirteen fallen Americans, as a result of Jihad, are being compared to the casualty of diversity? There is no room in our military or our government for these types of politically-oriented leaders.
It is time on a global basis to draw a line in the sand for Casey’s diversity. If diversity creates a culture of tolerance in the midst of a War on Terrorism and carnage within our own Army on our soil, I would suggest that we move to remove our tolerant leaders that are proponents of diversity.
Obama’s remarks I found to be encouraging, I hope he stays the course – for it is long past the time to play hard ball!
