If President Obama doesn’t get the message today after staking his administration’s policies on two gubernatorial elections which his party lost in the states of New Jersey and Virginia, which he took by a landslide one year ago to be elected president, it will be a sad state of affairs for our nation tomorrow.
The loss of the governor’s office in the States of New Jersey and Virginia should also be a wake-up call to the Congress, for this does not bode well for democrats in the mid-term elections.
It also should make the democratic controlled congress think twice about their health care reform package.
It is a sobering moment for our nation, because I believe the dramatic loss of New Jersey and Virginia to the GOP has less to do with party politics, or what was going on locally in the respective states – it truly reflects the nation’s sentiment of Obama on numerous issues and policies since the short time he has been in office.
The American people recognize that his spending policies are not working, the stimulus plan is not producing jobs, more government involvement in every facet of the public sector is not what the people want, it is not improving the economy, does not represent the capitalism principles that made this nation great nor the democracy for which America stands for.
Oh, you can expect the spinmeisters on both sides of the aisle to influence your perception of what happened yesterday.
But, what happened, especially in New Jersey, the bluest of blue states, was that the people, not Republicans, Independents, Liberals, Conservatives, or whatever labels you might want to put on our electorate, spoke out about President Obama’s policies, quickly and dramatically – after all he was only elected one year ago. This was a president that put his image – and policies – on the line with five visits to New Jersey in a Democratic controlled state and Governor Corzine went down to defeat. It was not about party – it was about Obama policies.
Obama policies, very frankly do not reflect our democracy, nor our values.
I am very proud of our electorate, they are intelligent, and much more so than our egocentric politicians think.
Republicans should not look upon this victory in two states as anything more than an opportunity to do what is right for the people. For, after all they are no better, in many respects, than their opposition party.
But, these two bell-weather states have clearly demonstrated the sentiment of the people. Let’s hope our politicians recognize this election for what it was, rather than what they might want to believe, in their own ego-driven minds.
