I received several forwards today coming off of internet passages that have been making the rounds, some asking me to check out a 4-minute You Tube excerpt from a speech by Lord Christopher Monckton, a noted climate change skeptic, claiming that President Obama is about to cede US Sovereignty if he signs a United Nations Climate Change Treaty scheduled in Copenhagen, December 2009.  This is what I found out:

Lord Monckton gave the speech on October 14 in St. Paul, MN.

The 4-minute excerpt of the speech is what was said; the interpretation of the treaty is that of Lord Monckton and is based upon his reading of the treaty and his understanding of the US Constitution.

The treaty is complex, convoluted and especially questionable for anyone who is a skeptic of Global Warming, which the advocates of same have now changed to Climate Change, and which Lord Monckton is one – a skeptic that is.

A segment of the treaty does advocate the transfer of wealth to third world countries by developed countries because the treaty concludes developed countries have been guilty of creating Climate Change.

The treaty creates a ‘World Government,’ a rather Marxist thought at the outset from an impotent UN.

Now there has been considerable debate raised about Monckton’s conclusion that the Copenhagen Treaty would cede US sovereignty.

However, he comes to this conclusion, which others have before, based upon his interpretation of The Supremacy Clause in the US Constitution (Article VI, paragraph 2).  This clause establishes the Constitution, Federal Statutes, and US Treaties as the supreme law of the land.

Concerns have been voiced in the past that a particularly ambitious treaty may supersede the US Constitution.  In the 1950′s, a constitutional amendment, known as the Bricker Amendment, was proposed in response to such fears, but it failed to pass.

What is somewhat scary about the facts in the treaty, the US Constitution and its interpretation by some, past and present, we now have a President who has openly declared a socialistic policy of wealth redistribution.  Why not do it on a Global basis?  Joe the plumber got the message before Obama was elected President.

Some background on Lord Monckton: He served as a policy adviser to Margaret Thatcher.

He was the one that has repeatedly challenged Al Gore to a debate to which Gore has refused.  He sued to stop Gore’s film “An Inconvenient Truth” from being shown in British schools due to its inaccuracies.

The judge found in-favor of Monckton, ordering 9 serious errors in the film to be corrected.

Monckton travels internationally in an attempt to educating the public about the myth of global warming.

Perhaps the people do need to heed Monckton’s warnings, for this could be a sleeper and the people should let Obama know where they stand – for after all we know where he stands with respect to wealth redistribution.
