Huh!
President Obama continues to deliver falsehoods to sell health care while others are admonished for telling the truth.
During the most contentious of the five interviews President Obama held yesterday in a staged marathon of canned health care messages, he adamantly told George Stephanopoulos of ABC that it is “not true ” that individuals would be taxed to get health insurance under a key reform plan now being debated in a Senate bill.
But in sentence one on page 29 introduced by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont), the bill says, “The consequence for not maintaining insurance would be an excise tax.”
It is also clear in the rest of the bill that the Finance Committee does consider it a tax: “The excise tax would be assessed through the tax code and applied as an additional amount of Federal tax owed.”
When Stephanopoulos tried to quote from Merriam Webster’s Dictionary the definition of tax – “a charge, usually money, imposed by authority on persons or property for public purposes,” – the president snapped back, “George, the fact that you looked up Merriam’s Dictionary, the definition of tax increase, indicates to me that you’re stretching a little bit right now. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have gone to the dictionary to check on the definition.”
The President then strongly denied that the mandate amounts to a tax increase saying it was not different than requiring people to have auto insurance and charging a penalty if they don’t.
There was little difference in this lie as compared to the cover-up he delivered before a joint session of Congress when he said a house health care bill didn’t cover illegal’s when it did. That was when Congressman Joe Wilson called him a liar, subsequently apologized to the President for the outburst, but was then censured by the House for his remark.
The President has now reduced the estimate of citizens that are not covered by health insurance, eliminating 20 million illegal’s, but promises to make them legal at some point in time.
Obama conducted five staged interviews from the same set before a White House fireplace which were taped on Friday, with ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and Univision. Fox News was apparently put in the penalty box for not covering the President’s address on health care to a joint session of Congress.
What we are seeing is government at work at the highest level and it’s not proving to be a very good lesson for the children of America when they see that “Truth” does not prevail.
Perhaps our childern can pool their resources and buy the president a dictionary so he can look up the definition of “Tax” and for that matter “Transparency”.
