Whoopi Goldberg a co-host of The View led off the discussion today during the ‘Hot Topics’ segment and took on the issues of ACORN saying ‘you don’t throw out the baby with the bath water’ because of a few ‘boneheads.’  She somehow came to the conclusion that people were trying to ‘dismantle’ ACORN over five undercover videos in five cities with more than five employees participating in advising pimps and prostitutes on how to get loans for illegitimate businesses and at the same time avoiding taxes.

Unfortunately Whoopi, although adamant in her position, didn’t do her homework on ACORN – she just attacked the attackers as radicals are taught to do to fight for the underdog.

Whoopi noted that we have ‘boneheads’ in the investment community, banks and the auto industry and we forgave them.  “We shouldn’t throw out the baby with the bathwater”, she said.

I don’t know of anyone yet suggesting this move, but perhaps a Congressional investigation, along with a Justice and FBI investigation will come to that conclusion following potential criminal charges.  This is what needs to be done by Congress as well as Justice because ACORN is being funded with taxpayer monies.

So Whoopi was a bit ahead of everyone else when coming to the conclusion that someone was trying to ‘dismantle’ ACORN.

Nevertheless, Barbara Walters supported her position and Joy Behar said there are a ‘bunch of boneheads’ in the Catholic Church and no one is dismantling them.

Unfortunately, Elizabeth Hasselbeck, the cool, voice of reason and common sense and pretty head among the other radicals on The View, was on maternity leave and could not voice a dissenting opinion.

Whoopi! Here are some facts to consider, or research points to uncover for yourself:

• ACORN could receive up to $8.3 billion under the economic stimulus legislation approved by the House
• ACORN has received an estimated $53 million in government funds since its founding in 1970
• ACORN is under investigation in at least 14 states in connection with allegations of voter registration fraud in the 2008 campaign
• ACORN ties to the Federal census have been recently severed
• ACORN funding has been terminated by the House
• ACORN claims to represent low-income workers but does not pay its own employees the minimum wage and in 1995 sued California for an exemption from its minimum wage requirement
• ACORN is now being investigated by at least 20 states as a result of the undercover video

Glenn Beck of Fox News has done a number of investigations of ACORN including revealing the five recently exposed video tapes and alleges there is money laundering among the number of organizations, unknown to the public, that are associated with ACORN including the SEIU Union.

ACORN was a community organizing group that fostered homes for low-income families that couldn’t afford them which became one of the elements that led to foreclosures the down fall of the real estate market, mortgage companies, the likes of Fanny Mae, Freddie Mac, AIG  and ultimately Banks.  All of this, along with other elements and decisions within the economy, led to government bailouts of these institutions and the stimulus legislation that ACORN was to benefit from, among others.

Another fact that is relevant, ACORN has connections in high places.  When President Obama was a community organizer in Chicago, he had connections to ACORN and represented them on at least one occasion as an attorney.

Now the reaction by blogs today to The View’s discussion of ACORN was fast and furious:

One said, “I just felt like I was watching an episode of “The Stoopids” when Joy, Whoppi, and Barbara were discussing the ACORN scandal.  These women are way too uninformed about this particular situation to discuss the issues that have recently surfaced regarding the relationship between ACORN, government funding with taxpayer dollars, and the apparent willingness and ability to facilitate criminal activity when presented before the personnel in a random sampling of ACORN offices . . . Another said, “Before you take up for welfare, ACORN and government assistance, make sure you know what is happening around the country . . .We have illegal immigrants living in our fair city who are already getting insurance and WIC cards for food assistance.  They call our “government stupid”. . . .”Whoopi, Sherry and Joy are complete sheep.  Even Elizabeth criticized the Bush administration from time to time. I can’t wait till they are proven wrong, or will they ever admit it?”

It wasn’t the finest of hot topics discussions for the ladies of The View.”  But it did demonstrate the ignorance that prevails for those liberals that want to stick their heads in the sand and ‘not throw out the baby with the bath water.’

A Congressional investigation of ACORN is called for, followed by a Justice Department investigation of criminal activity.
