It is obvious and pathetic, but the left wing media, consisting of CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN and the New York Times, continues to provide platforms for the Obama administration to the point that they no longer represent the fourth estate. Tonight was no different on CBS’ ’60 Minutes.’
Forget objective journalism, for that doesn’t exist anywhere. But we might expect fair and balanced reporting.
Today there is only one network that delivers that form of journalism and that’s Fox News, the station with the highest ratings and the most viewers – bar none.
This eveniing CBS provided, as it has done before, a platform for President Obama to deliver a follow-up to his speech on health care reform before a joint session of Congress last Wednesday where he was called a liar by a Republican Congressman.
A previous column on this site covers the Obama health care lies.
But tonight we are delivering the sound bites – to be fair and balanced – that CBS allowed Obama to serve up on health care to their limited audience:
Obama: “We have to make this happen . . . I’m confident we will get this done. The political environment is such that the Republicans want to kill this effort . . . we want to get something done.
“I said on tort reform we can work together where doctors think about patient care rather than defensive care.
If health care passes, I own it.”
When asked one of the few challenging questions by Steve Kroft how Obama was going to pay for the plan Obama said, “2 trillion is spent every year on health care. We will make small changes in waste and abuse to cut costs . . . details need to be worked out.”
But he didn’t address what political deals will be made in the final bill containing thousands of words that few will read.
Obama said the banking bail-out was not on his watch, but admitted that he initiated a big recovery act of $800 billion.
He said people are worn out, fatigued and this was a difficult economic environment. “People are suffering from sticker shock.”
“Some believe that health care can wait. The only way I can get spending under control is to get health care under control.”
When asked about the heckling he got from Congressman Joe Wilson, claiming that he lied about not covering illegal aliens, he said, “Wilson was a surprise . . . he apologized afterwards and I accepted it. Debate has brought out the worst and our 24 hour news cycle of cable news hasn’t been a help.”
Obama asked the question “how can we make civility interesting . . . it’s a work in progress.”
CBS provided Obama with the airtime to deliver some inconsequential soundbites, with little news value . . . but the ‘one ‘was in our face again.
