President Obama’ speech to school children across the nation today is void of politics and no longer reflects the pre-speech lesson plan and questions released by the White House that stirred up controversy among parents across the nation.
Missing from the speech is any reference to questions that triggered the revolt, such as ‘What is the President asking me to think about? What new ideas and actions is the President asking me to think about?’ Students were encouraged to think about ‘how the president is inspiring them and how they can help him?’ The children were also encouraged to create and develop posters about the president.
The chairman of the Florida Republican Party, Jim Greer, who called the speech a platform “to spread” his “socialist ideology,” said he was appalled that taxpayer dollars are being used to spread President Obama’s socialist ideology.
The response by parents and political pundits from both parties was so strong that it forced the White House to withdraw its request for the students to ‘help’ the president.
The speech today avoids any political reference and suggests that it was modified between the time the White House released the provocative lesson plan and questions and the time it released the transcript of the speech to the public yesterday.
