President Obama came along 25 years too late for George Orwell’s forecast of the ‘Big Brother’ theory in his book 1984, but it’s here now . . . that is, unless you haven’t recognized it yet because you’ve been sleeping with Rip Van Winkle for the last nine months.
The Orwellian thesis portrays a pervasive government, with surveillance, control and increasing encroachment on the rights of the individual.
Within a few months in office the Obama administration took over investment institutions, banks, the auto industry and passed a $787 Billion stimulus package that has yet to equal that of Viagra in its goal.
He then went on a globetrotting tour apologizing to anyone who would listen, for all of what America did wrong in its immediate past – other than saving the universe.
Bush bashing was the strategy – the war in Iraq, Afghanistan, was wrong, the economy that he inherited needed to be saved and even the safety that Bush gave Americans since 9/11 needed investigation because of the use of interrogation techniques of Islamic terrorists that killed some 3,000 persons on US soil.
However, after nine months in office Obama doesn’t seem to want to own anything because he inherited it all from Bush – but he sure as hell owns the image of ‘Big Brother’.
And if you haven’t noticed, the American people don’t like what they see. I saw a sticker the other day on the car of a known Democrat: ‘O-what-a-mistake!’
His poll numbers are tanking over Health Care Reform and to his surprise – his moves to increase Government’s control over almost every aspect of business and citizens lives.
Obama’s own ‘Rules For Radicals’, adopted from his mentor Saul Alinsky, are obvious to the people.
He calls town hall meetings, which he used very effectively in his political campaign for the presidency, on the opposition to Health Care Reform, ‘organized by mobs’ and ‘astro turf”, while these were the very techniques he used in Chicago under Alinsky’s tutorial.
This is what his supporters, Acorn and SEIU use – but there is more to come and to be revealed on the propaganda evolving from the White House.
No one knows what they are talking about on Health Care Reform because there is no direction from the White House; although this is their signature bill. Obama passed this off to Reid and Pelosi and they have been fumbling the ball ever since and Obama has yet to step in to define specifically what any bill actually says.
But, we the people have enough information from the administration to tell them we don’t like what we see. It is Government Health Care — the government can’t run the Post Office, Amtrak, nor Medicare or Medicaid – and you want us to believe we need more government intervention?
Government control of health care will determine when one should live or die and will determine for all the diagnoses of diseases, the treatments and procedures to be used, when and how, and at what age. Yes it will be rationed care, otherwise it can not prove to be affordable. Once the camel’s head is in the tent, no matter what the bill says at the outset, the rest of the body will come in and the process I have outlined will ultimately be true because the objective will be incremental in order to control cost.
Sarah Palin’s comment of a government ‘death panel’ is right on the mark.
Now, if this is not enough for you to believe ‘Big Brother’ is here let’s examine what is already here and what is on the horizon as our civil liberties are being eroded.
The White House has established a website specifically to address health care reform called ‘reality check.’ This was done because they thought there were a lot of, as they called them ‘fishy stories’ out there. So they asked people who signed into their website and others who did not, using third party E-mail lists, to report, or snitch on their neighbors, about these ‘fishy misrepresentations’ to the White House. Major Garrett, White House Correspondent for Fox News questioned Robert Gibbs, White House Press Secretary, about the lists and those that were sent this E-mail that didn’t request it. Gibbs was embarrassed, didn’t have a very good answer and shortly thereafter the White House blamed it on third parties, a mistake, and allegedly ceased whatever it was they were or were not doing. Sound Orwellian?
Sounded to me a bit like Casey Stengel, or perhaps, Joe Biden.
The website is still up and running and on Monday they attacked the health insurance industry with a Biden video, the opportunity for people to upload their own video comments on health care reform, their experiences and a quiz, all of which they requested the subscribers – it is not known if the other list of non-subscribers is still operative – to pass the information on to others.
They seem to admit in their communications, on their website and in new initiatives, that they are experimenting and not exactly sure of what they are doing ethically or legally – and this is very evident.
The Hollywood Blog in an article by Patrick Courrieiche reported that the author, “On August 6th was invited by the National Endowment for the Arts to attend a conference call scheduled for Monday August 10th hosted by the NEA, the White House Office of Public Engagement, and United We Serve.” The call according to Courrieiche, “Was to include a group of artists, producers, promoters, organizers, influencers, marketers, taste-makers, leaders or just plain cool people to join together and work together to promote a more civically engaged America and celebrate how the arts can be used for a positive change!”
According to Courrielche the effort was backed by the full weight of President Barack Obama’s call to service and the institutional weight of the NEA, the conference call was billed as an opportunity for those in the art community to insure service in four key categories, and at the top of the list were ‘health care’ and ‘energy and environment.’ The service was to be attached to the President’s United We Serve campaign, a nationwide federal initiative to make service a way of life for all Americans.
In another Orwellian move, a Senate bill would offer President Obama emergency control of the Internet and may give him a so called ‘kill switch’ to shut down online traffic by seizing private networks – a move cybersecurity experts worry will choke off industry and civil liberties.
Again the bill both in its initial form and its second draft is vague, much like the health care reform bills floating around. This I believe is by design, for everything in this administration is vague and left up to interpretation without the campaign promise of transparency.
Where is the ACLU on these civil liberty issues?
‘Big Brother’ is here – he just arrived a little late.
