scotland should hang its head in shame

I knew two passengers on Pan Am flight 103 and often think of their last moments when the plane on which they were flying from London to New York blew-up over Lockerbie Scotland.

Today Kenny MacAskil, the Scottish justice minister freed Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi, the only man convicted of the 1988 atrocity, on the basis of Scotland’s ‘humanity.’  You see Megrahi, who had served just eight years of a 27-year sentence, has terminal prostate cancer and was released, according to MacAskil on the basis of unique Scottish ‘values.’

How about the ‘humanity’ of the 270 passengers on the plane that he was convicted of blowing up?  How about the ‘values’ of justice?  How about resurrecting the nightmare of the victims families?

Megrahi is a former Libyan intelligence agent and allegedly has three months to live.

But today a private plane of Libyan Leader Gadhafi, whose son picked up Meghahi a convicted terrorist in Scotland, was greeted in Libya by thousands as a hero.

To think that it was just one person, who continues to claim his innocence, was the only one involved and convicted of this terrorist act, is at best suspicious.  To also see the passive nature of the United Kingdom as well as the United States, even today, at the release of this criminal, is incredulous.

Some questions need to be answered as to the humanity of Scotland — are politics involved, or oil?  Why was Meghahi picked up by Gadhafi’s personal plane and by his son?  Why was he given a heroes welcome upon his return to Libya?  Why is it that President Obama is so cordial to Libyan leader Gadhafi, despite his protest of the actions today?  And where is the comment from the United Kingdom?

Scotland should be ashamed of itself; the humanity of one life, for whatever reason, should not justify the death of 270 innocent individuals.
