The patriotism that manifested itself in the film ‘Yankee Doodle Dandy’ in 1942 has again shown its face in town hall meetings across the United States protesting Government Controlled Health Care Reform.

A sleeping giant was awakened when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and the people didn’t like what they saw, acted collectively, worked as a team and the end result is history that has been well recorded.

There is an analogy here, President Obama promised ‘change’ when he was running for office, but within a short six months in office the people quickly found out that they do not like the change that he is trying to execute compared to the change that he promised on a number of issues.

The focal point is now health care and the town hall meetings have allowed the people to speak — and, oh how they have spoken, which is a shock to the administration.

The Obama team wanted to rush this government health care reform through before Congress recessed – they couldn’t make it happen.

Government health care reform is the signature issue of the Obama Presidency and the public does not want the ‘Public Option’, which is government run health care.  Any other term, such as co-op health care is a Trojan horse — it is government controlled health care.

The health care change that President Obama called for sure triggered a democratic response.  Oh, the administration wanted to label this grass roots response, ‘astro turf and manufactured’ — but they are sure finding out that it is a ground swell that they didn’t expect and now there are signs they are back peddling to some form of capitulation, but are still striving for government control of health care.  The New York Times is reporting tomorrow that the Democrats will go it alone.  Well I predict that if they do they will do it at their own peril in 2010.

Last month Obama wouldn’t sign a bill that didn’t include the public option of government control.  This week his tone has changed — but still wants government control under some other term.

The patriotism of Yankee Doodle Dandy, starring James Cagney, came about for a variety of reasons, but it was transformed when production was only a few days old when the attack on Pearl Harbor took place and the crew resolved to make an uplifting patriotic film.

Well, Mr. President you triggered a response of Democracy, not all that different than what took place when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.  You see you are attacking our rights, our democracy –  we don’t want more government control, we want less.  You got a Yankee Doodle response.
