The Democrats want to ram through a partisan health care bill that will cover all, including 50 % of illegal aliens living in this country, tax the rich and small business to pay for it and provide, not better, but poorer health care than we now have.
You might ask how I come to the conclusion that the proposed system will be inferior to the current system?
Well in addition to taxing the rich and small business — and in doing so loosing more jobs — Medicare and Medicaid will have to be scaled back. This means a reduced amount of services currently provided under these programs. The Dems would like us to believe that the cost reductions will come from streamlining these programs to make them more efficient.
I ask you, when has the government made anything more efficient — was it the Post Office or Amtrak?
Now what is being proposed, and President Obama wants to rush this bill through as he did with the stimulus package so no one has the time to read it, is called socialized medicine, which historically has provided inadequate health care in other countries such as the United Kingdom and Canada.
The bill would provide for a surtax and apply to any adjusted gross income exceeding $280,000 a year for an individual and $350,000 for a couple filing a joint return.
According to the New York Times, “Starting in 2011, a family making $500,000 would have to pay $1,500 in additional income tax to help subsidize coverage for the uninsured. A family making $1 million would have to pay $9,000.
Employers not providing health insurance to workers would pay a penalty to the government of 8 percent of wages with an annual payroll of more than $400,000.
Douglas W. Elmendorf, director of the budget office, according to the Times, said that by 2019 the bill could reduce the number of people without health insurance by 37 million, leaving 17 million still uninsured. Nearly half of the uninsured would be illegal immigrants.
The tax would also rise higher for the rich if by 2013 the government did not achieve specified savings in federal health programs like Medicare and Medicaid.
The Congressional Budget Office said the overall program would cost an estimated $1 trillion over10 years to expand the coverage.
This bill combined with the climate bill — which would affect all taxpayers because of an energy tax — negates all promises Obama made during his campaign for the presidency with respect to no increase in taxes for those making under $250,000.
Keep in mind 50 percent of Americans do not pay taxes. The money therefore must come from those that do.
And if this isn’t bad enough, there is talk that he is considering an across the board tax increase because there just isn’t enough money available for all the spending Obama wants to do.
House leader John A Boehner of Ohio called the bill, “criminal malpractice.”
As we have said before, and Obama said himself on the campaign trail, he believes in wealth re-distribution. He is leveling the playing field just as Saul Alinsky advocated for community organizers in his book “Rules For Radicals.” Alinsky’s book is the foundaton for Obama’s game plan and the growth of big government at its worst . . . and there is more to come!
