President Obama took his Health Care Reform message to AMA Docs in his flamboyant teleprompter style today delivering generalities of a plan, but not specifics, and as we all know the devil is in the details.

It’s a $1.2 Trillion plan spread over 10 years, which everyone will pay for, with most of the burden going to the wealthy.  Remember this administration is all about wealth re-distribution.

I think during the speech he delivered an oxymoron, when he said we are going to deliver the ‘Best care at the lowest cost.’

And, oh by the way, he promises that you can keep your current Doc and your current health care plan if you want.

Obama is just going to fix what is broken.

He went so far as to quote Newt Gingrich — “And I don’t quote him that often,” Obama said — but, “We do a better job tracing Fed X packages than we do patient records.”

And so he is going to change this with an upgrade of medical record keeping and reduce medical errors and save 100,000 lives per year.

This plan is going to have some form of behavioral modification.  For he said each of us is going to take more responsibility for ourselves.  Get rid of that junk food that leads to an epidemic of obesity.

I thought it was he that went to that special place in DC with NBC’s Brian Williams for a hamburger?

Look for the bill to have provisions for more sidewalks and jungle gyms — that will keep us healthier.

Obama wants to work on prevention rather than managing diseases.

He wants to eliminate using treatments we don’t need.

He wants to emphasize the delivery of medical care through education, because he believes too many MD’s are making decisions without the proper information.

For example he believes that too many physicians are recommending bypass surgery, when a stent might do as well or rather than a stent drugs might work as well.

Yes, the government is going to be making these decisions through medical information and a formula that doctors will have to abide by if they want to get paid.

The concept Obama says is spending down and quality up.  Could this be another oxymoron, or the same one?

Today he says there are 46 million people out there without coverage.  He says we are a nation that cares for our citizens so he is proposing that we:

  • Protect what’s working
  • If you don’t like what exists you can participate in the health insurance exchange – choose a plan that’s best for you
  • There will be a number of plans including the basic plan
  • There will be the public options — this provides for competition and will keep the insurance companies honest
  • He said Medicare payments were too low — the Docs like this statement
  • Establish a sounder financial basis
  • The wealthiest will be taxed at the same rate that they were in the Clinton administration
  • Insurance companies will get more customers but must accept customers with pre-existing conditions
  • Introduce generic drugs into market place at a greater pace and with greater ease
  • Well off seniors will be asked to pay more

All of this will help to extend the life of Medicare by 7 years.

There is $950 B on the table.

Obama warns us not to listen to the scare tactics of some that this is socialized medicine.

He said the health care system is “a ticking time bomb” for the budget that could force America to “go the way of GM” without a legislative fix.

Who now is using the scare tactics?

“A big part of what led General Motors and Chrysler into trouble,” he said, “were the huge costs they racked up providing health care for their workers – costs that made them less profitable and less competitive with automakers around the world.”

“If we do not fix our health care system,” Obama said, “America may go the way of GM – paying more, getting less, and going broke.”

Well isn’t that scary without even considering the naysayers’ providing you with the facts of socialized medicine in Canada and the UK?

Look for the devil in the details of this health care reform rather than the rhetoric coming off the teleprompter.
