We know President Obama is an orator extraordinaire, aided by his skill to read from his linus-like blankie teleprompters — as long as the prompter operator does his job properly.   His pregnant pauses come at all the right places in his speeches, sucking in his target audiences with the likes of messages, some of which are credible and believable, and others that are not, but still seem to be acceptable to his rock-like followers, with a delivery not seen in former presidents.  His body language and oratory, portrays a rather superior arrogance,  and is in sync with the total package of creating a cult of Obamamania.  In contrast to his Cairo speech, even I was proud to have him represent me as an American at the 65th Normandy anniversary ceremonies at Colleville-sur-Mer cemetery, even though the message for all of the participants was filled with grateful gratitude’s and platitudes, but from any form of  policy statement, quite benign.

I would envision Obama in the frontier days of  our country’s beginnings as a snake oil salesman hawking his wares from the back of a covered wagon where gullible citizens heading west for riches would beat a path to the back of his wagon to buy what he was selling.

Oh, today we are much more sophisticated.  The White House Tech staff has interactive web sites and they are face booking and twittering the Obama messages to the point they are suggesting that the Obama Cairo speech infiltrated and influenced Muslim opinion as they continued to sell it after the President allegedly sold it.

Although Obama himself may not be a known entity to us , other than his rock star qualities, we know a lot about his Great Uncles, who fought in World War II and a Grandfather that liberated a concentration camp in Germany and a mother that worked in the war effort on the home front.   And he made it known in his Cairo speech that his father came from generations of Muslims, thus establishing in his own mind that he created credibility in the Middle East because of these past connections.

This kid we now call President surfaced in 2004 at the Democratic National Convention as a Senate candidate from Illinois and gave a speech that rocked the audience. The  Democratic scouts thought they saw the second coming of New York Yankee reliever Mariano Rivera in the form of the next President of the United States.

Before he became a Senator he was a lawyer working as a community organizer in Chicago, with dubious connections, where he said in Cario, he worked with Muslims.  At one point he represented ACORN, a liberal community organizing group who is now being investigated for election fraud, and who the Treasury Department will use in the upcoming US census to gather information that will result in political redistricting – guess in who’s favor?

Oh, he told the same old stories about his family, the sacrifices, the opportunities he had and only in America can this happen.

But what do we really know about him?

Lou Prichett a former vice President and Division head with Procter and Gamble, and now a motivational speaker and author, wrote an open letter to the President which was published in the New York Times, the mouth piece for the Democratic Party.

It said in part:

  • “You are the 13th President under whom I have lived and unlike any of the others, you truly scare me.  You scare me because after months of exposure, I know nothing about you.
  • “You scare me because I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League education and your upscale lifestyle housing with no visible signs of support.
  • “You scare me because you did not spend the formative years of youth growing up in America and culturally you are not an American.
  • “You scare me because you have never run a company or met a payroll.
  • “You scare me because you have never had military experience, thus don’t understand it at its core.
  • “You scare me because you lack humility and ‘class’, always blaming others.
  • “You scare me because for over half your life you have aligned yourself with radical extremists who hate America and you refuse to publicly denounce these radicals who wish to see America fall.
  • ” You scare me because you are a cheerleader for the ‘blame America’ crowd and deliver this message abroad.”

There were many more scares and a final fear, that Mr.Pritchett might not be able to write a similar open letter if Obama serves a second term.

From the time that Obama delivered that speech before the DNC in 2004 he was campaigning for the Presidency, even though he served two very non distinguishing years in the Senate,

He spent two years running for the presidency with staged speeches and town hall meetings, most of  the time Bush bashing and distinguishing himself from an administration who’s polls were in the doldrums.  When political candidates from his party challenged him he virtually ignored them continuing to strike a difference between him and Bush.

And today, after 139 scary days as President of the United States, we still can’t tell the difference between Obama the Candidate and Obama the President.

We still don’t know him as Mr. Prichett points out.

He has appointed some 14-15 Czars to handle the economic crisis dealing with the likes of financial institutions, banks, the auto industry, cyberspace and every other bailout that has yet to be identified.  These Czars, borrowed from ancient Russian times, report to the CEO of Czars, Obama and have no accountability to Congress as a Cabinet member would.

Today in the New York Times there was an Op-Ed piece by Sandy B. Lewis and William D. Cohan two Wall Street operatives who state the “Economy is still at the brink.”

But they say Obama is conducting an all out campaign to try to make us feel a whole lot better about the economy as quickly as possible.

“Mr. Obama thinks that the way to revive the economy is to restore confidence in it.  If the mood is right, the capital will flow.  “But this belief is dangerously misguided . . . if we’ve learned anything at all two years into the worst financial crisis of our lifetimes, it is that a capital-markets system that’s dependent on public confidence is a shockingly  inadequate foundation upon which to rest our economy,” the authors noted.

They raised the following questions/issues in the very mouth piece of the liberal movement:

  • “The storm is not over, not by a long shot.  Huge structural flaws remain in the architecture of our financial system.
  • “Instead of promising the imminent return of good times, why isn’t Mr. Obama talking more about the importance of living within our means and not spending money we don’t have.
  • “One of the ways out of this economic conundrum is to have experience traders not hothouse flowers design incentives.
  • “Why is the government still complicit in making the system ever less transparent, when it comes to what should be clearly considered public information?
  • “Why do we still not know why Mr. Paulson, Mr. Geithner and the Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke allow Lehmam Brothers to file bankruptcy?
  • “Not a single top executive of a Wall Street Securities firm responsible for causing the financial crisis has had the courage to step forward and explain why.
  • “Prosecutors could use laws to bring charges against people or firms in the financial services industry whose pattern of bad behavior played a role in the collapse.”

And so what we have is rhetoric, not the promised transparency from the Obama Administration – and it’s going to continue.

Obama is just back from his Middle East and a European jaunt along with a second date with Michelle last evening dining at the no-star restaurant La Fontaine de Mars and the White House tells us that he is now going to play a greater role in Health Care Reform after he said he would leave the details to Congress.

He is going to do what he does best, exerting greater control over the health care debate and will begin to prepare an intense campaign for legislation.  This will include — you guessed it — speeches, town-hall-style meetings and much greater lobbying with lawmakers.

He is doing what he does best, more like a snake oil salesman than a President.
