Nancy Pelosi committed an unforced error today, shot herself in the foot, much like President Obama has done on the same issue, when she held a press conference on what she knew and what she didn’t know on terrorists’ interrogation techniques that she was informed about by the CIA, but then accused the CIA of lying to her.

But her lying eyes and demeanor belied  the truth at a news conference she called to defend herself that proved to be an utter disaster.  She conistently contradicted herself with her own statements and those of others.

She tried, without much success, to state that the Bush administration and the CIA misled the Congress on both weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and the use of torture and ‘waterboarding’ .

She said that is why her  objective was to replace Republican members of congress and the President.  A statement that was shallow at best with respect to what she knew.

While the press conference was going on I quickly switched channels to CNN, MSNBC, CNBC — the other cable channels that cover the news of the day other than we blogs on the internet, and the Pelosi news conference was void of coverage — yet the story has legs on Fox, newspapers and the internet.  It clearly demonstrated the bias of the mainstream liberal media.  The networks, CBS, NBC and ABC were impotent on this issue as usual.

“I was not briefed — I was just informed on what was taking place with waterboarding,”  Pelosi said.  When pressed by the media Pelosi said my statement is clear:

‘Let me read it again . .

‘Let me read it again . .

‘Let me read it again . .’

Pelosi called for a ‘Truth Committee.’

Pelosi was nervous, uneasy and clearly not comfortable with delivering the truth from the heart when she had to constantly refer to her prepared statement and couldn’t find the right quote from a statement that had been clearly prepared by a staffer.  So her statements didn’t appear to come from the heart with any level of credibility.

Charging the CIA with lying to the Congress is a very serious allegation, one that is in fact criminal, if true.  The CIA responded immediately not just with a denial but ready to present the evidence to refute the Speaker of the House.

Pelosi’s charge was utterly implausible.

Aside from the CIA’s capability to release the evidence of what Pelosi knew, the CIA has proven over the years it can bring down governments of countries and has the means to leak the truth and in effect destroy Pelosi.

It is very clear that the Dems have a major distraction in the Pelosi fopa, but also in the Obama reversal in releasing further memos on enhanced interrogation and releasing photos of same.

It is a major distraction for the admininstration in difficult terrorist times.  In an Obama basketball analogy — there are too many unforced errors in this administration in too short a period of time.
