I don’t know if President Obama ever took a ride on a merry go round at Asbury Park, I did, and I’m sure Bruce Springsteen did, but, I don’t know if he did, but I’m sure he feels he is on one today that is spinning so fast he doesn’t have a chance to grab the brass ring.
Obama just came off a world-wind tour of Europe with his tele-prompters and his popularity equated to something like a Madonna or Michael Jackson, neither of which I would want to equate to myself.
Wow, with our fascination with Hollywood we must really be impressed with this performance, coupled with a final surprise visit to Iraq to visit the troops. What drama.
But what did he achieve on this trip? Oh, he bungled an iPod gift to the Queen — she already had one! He shook a lot of hands that no one wanted to shake because he had a cold and those that came in contact with him quickly asked for the Purell. Carla Bruni, the doll model, French President Sarkozy’s wife, didn’t even want to kiss him.
He then bowed, although the White House Press office denies it, at the waste, clearly seen on TV, to the King of Saudi Arabia — an Islam. When someone the size of Obama bows — we know it. It wasn’t a nod. Even the Queen didn’t get a bow that would cause a cervical disk herniation.
He apologized to Europe for the United States being so arrogant and divisive, while at the same time, noting as an afterthought, that the US came to their aid on many occasion.
He then came home empty handed, other than being a very popular Afro-American President.
That’s right he asked for military support in Afghanistan and got none.
While he was there the North Koreans shot off a missile in defiance, Obama asked for sanctions from the UN, got none, and got no support from Russia or China.
There was no substance achieved on this trip, although I am sure his close advisers will tell him he mended a lot of fences from the past administration.
Of course this is what advisers tell the CEO in any Corporate tower, whether it be GM, or the White House.
I don’t know if you saw what I saw, however. There seemed to be some signs of transnationalism — you know this is the social movement grown out of the heightened interconnectivity between people all and the loosening of boundaries between countries.
These economic times tend one to think this way. It’s very dangerous. Another term that has caught on here in the US and elsewhere, including our Universities is Globalization — it’s one and the same.
You see proponents of transnationalism seek to facilitate the flow of people, ideas, and goods between regions. It also signals a shift in migration patterns. The Chinese are a historical precursor to modern transnationalism.
President Obama’s comments, behavior on his European journey had signs and signals of transnationalism.
If you are looking for a true test of President Obama’s policies on this issue carefully watch the development in Spain who wants to prosecute Americans who advised President Bush on actions against terrorists under a process known as “lawfare” under an International Criminal Court and to prosecute Americans by Spain.
What about the sovereignty of the Constitution of the United States?
Unfortunately there are few out there that are aware our current Supreme Court’s justices think this country should be ruled by something other than the Constitution of the United States — laws that were made pursuant to the constitution and treaties clearly consistent with it.
As that merry go round spins at such a rapid rate that even Obama, with his basketball skills, will not enable him to grab the brass ring in time to understand what is happening, we the people need to be watching — the intelligent, those that can speak the language — especially in these times of porous borders.
