Only the New York Times could miss the lead in what they called a ‘Fireside Chat’ between President Obama and Jay Leno on the Tonight Show.
The lead was the obvious flub made by Obama who can’t speak without his teleprompter, when the times reported, three paragraphs from the end of the story: “One impolitic moment when trying to make a self-deprecating joke about his bowling score of 129, saying, ‘That was like the Special Olympics or something.”
The Times noted that after the taping Obama issued an apology for the remark.
Well there was no question that it was ‘impolitic’ it was a downright insult to children with a handicap who try, compared to the President’s ineptness in throwing a bowling ball, as compared to his competence in throwing a basketball.
Only three paragraphs from the end of the Times story did they mention, what has become, in a very short time in this administration, what is known as the Obama/Biden gaffes.
One might very seriously question why Obama would appear on the Leno show in the midst of an economic crisis? Was it a campaign promise for contributions that Leno made? It didn’t make sense in these times. There was no reason for the President to run the risk of becoming a buffoon in times of an economic crisis, which is what he proved he could do.
Although the Times, delivering the left wing spin called the event “Just a couple of average Joes having a fireside chat”.
Give me a break — Obama screwed up!
Nevertheless, the voice of the left, said early in the story: “Over all Mr. Obama, the first sitting president to be a guest on ‘The Tonight Show’, delivered a famiraly smooth, winning performance in an unfamiliar setting — a fireside chat for the flat-screen age.”
Instead of telling it like it was the Times covered up the flub, which other media focused on, rightly so, and called it a ‘fireside chat’ while downplaying the fact that Obama doesn’t work well without a teleprompter.
I mean listen to these words by the Times: “Like his predecessors, Mr. Obama has traveled out of the nation’s capital and held town hall meetings around the country. He chose to aligning himself with a late-night comedian to signal as vividly as possible that a little more than midway through his first 100 days he is stiil an outsider, in Washington but not of Washington, not a combatant but an envoy sent there by voters to cease hostilities and clean up the mess.”
Who the hell wrote that, certainly not his press secretary, Robert Gibbs, who puts his foot in his mouth at daily press conferences more than Obama and Biden combined. This is pure public relations spin from the mouthpiece of the Democratic Party, the New York Times.
