President Obama promised change for those that sought it, he promised transparency for those that wanted it and most of all he promised hope for those that need it in these troublesome times . . . and on the basis of these promises he was elected, Commander in Chief . . . however, he seems to be coming up short on all three of his promises.
Now you might say on the basis of his short few weeks in office that I’m rushing to judgment, but if you have read my previous column dealing with ‘Mendacity’ and his selection of tax evaders and lobbyists of old, for major positions in his administration, I rest my case and thesis that in these early days his administration has not produced one semblance of change, least of all innovation, and as for hope, you might be better going to Church and seeking out faith.
I borrowed ‘Generational Theft’ from Sen. John McCain, Obama’s opponent during the presidential campaign.
He appeared Sunday on “Face the Nation” and pointed out that we are leaving the nation’s debt, as a result of the Obama spending spree and questionable stimulus package, to get out of this economic crisis, to be paid for by our children and grandchildren.
And so where we are headed, ‘generational theft’ is well on its way to the tune of $9.7 trillion.
The GOP tried to introduce a $420 billion, stimulus package and it was summarily dismissed by the Democrats. Furthermore the GOP tried to introduce a trigger in the bill that when we got to an acceptable GDP level the spending would cease; the Democrats again rejected this proposal.
“When the speaker of the house said ‘We Won’ that set the stage,” said McCain. “I thought we were going to have change and work together . . . this is a setback,” McCain added. And he noted, “Picking-off three Republican senators, is not bipartisanship.” No Republicans in the House supported the bill.
What we’ve got in Washington DC is the same old belt-way politics with players of old from the Clinton administration.
The only change that is recognizable, is a Hollywood-like celebrity, or cult figure in a President called Barack Hussein Obama.
Because he himself said “We Won” and “We will prevail” he failed to reach out to get the bipartisan support from Congress he promised. Instead he is using cult popularity and taking his trillion dollar spending spree message directly to the people. However, polls among the people show that when 93% of the package is spending that will never go away, and only 7% is stimulus — the taxpayers are opposed. Some of the money proposed is not only socialist in origin, but has earmarked dollars that will not be spent for years therefore not providing immediate stimulus.
But Obama warns that if we don’t accept his package economic catastrophe will ensue; while the GOP takes the opposite view along with many economists.
Nevertheless he isn’t talking to colleagues in the House or Senate from the other side of the aisle, he is taking his cult stardom to the people tomorrow in Ft. Myers Fla., where many began standing in line yesterday for the 1500 free tickets which become available today.
The only change Obama brought to Washington was stardom and media overexposure, neither of which produce jobs nor resolve the housing dilemma. We don’t need a cult figure as President; we need a quite leader that delivers what he promises.
Obama talks a good game, but doesn’t seem to know how to play it. McCain was kind in calling this proposed spending spree ‘generational theft’; but it seems more like generational rape to me.
