An ad that advocated eating veggies was banned by NBC from appearing on the Super Bowl, because it “depicts a level of sexuality exceeding our standards,’ was , in my opinion the winner of all those that paid millions to appear on the Super Bowl.

In fact I have already begun to eat more veggies.

Now if you want to see this ad again look up a previous column entitled “Guerrilla Advertising by PETA Pre-empts & Trumps NBC’s Super Bowl Ads.”

And in fact this is what happened.  Nothing topped the ad on the Supper Bowl commercials over the banned PETA Ad and they didn’t have to pay a cent for placement, they just paid for the production of the ad that NBC banned taking advantage of the news value in the ban.

It was Guerrilla marketing at its best. The ad featured a bevy of sexually attractive and clad women who are powerless to resist the temptation of veggie love in behalf of the mission of PETA, people for the ethical treatment of animals.

In a previous column that I did on this ad, I did receive a comment from a European reader who said: ” Whole lot to do about nothing actually. Over here in Europe we would never ban such an innocent ad from our television screens. In fact, the only reason we would ban it is because it’s too innocent. Come on guys (and girls), wake up to reality. This is the 21st century we are living in.”

It was a whole lot to do about nothing, especially if you viewed the commercial, and it was a lot better than those that were aired.

A clever move by PETA . . . and very cost effective.
