I don’t know if you are seeing what I’m seeing but this cool dude from Chicago is setting the stage for managing the media like no other President before, although they all have tried in one form or another.
Obama has held three press conferences since his election and there are more to come before his inauguration.
This is good and the times call for his presence during this economic crisis and his transition to the White House.
However only the astute eye of the journalist will note the pattern that is developing.
His pawns or prospective appointees stand behind him while he delivers his smooth pre planned rhetoric and then he says he will take a few questions from the media.
Then he looks to the right of his podium for a list of reporters to call upon, all apparently pre-selected by his media personnel.
They seem to be singled out well in advance of the press conference, and for all that I know prompted to ask certain questions that Obama is prepared to answer.
Now this is not far fetched speculation on my part, for I have run press conferences and it is not uncommon to have friendly’s in the audience to ask planted questions.
You will also note that during the past three press conferences those selected to ask questions come for the most part from liberal media. The Wall Street Journal was selected once when Obama named his economic team.
He is programmed to select a pre-selected number of reporters to ask questions and before he comes to the last he announces he will take one more question.
It is an orchestrated attempt at managing the message and you will see more of this coming from O-Cool.
There will be a honeymoon period for this cool dude, and he and his communications team will make every effort to manage the message and you will see the pattern outlined until another Sam Donaldson comes back on the scene.
