The time for a stimulus package is now and President George W. Bush could go out a hero rather than something else, if he served as a catalyst and initiated an economic meeting at the White House among President-elect Barack Obama and his newly announced economic team, the present administration team and leaders of Congress and agreed on an economic stimulus plan for expedition by Congress in the next two weeks.
This would bolster confidence in the financial community, Wall Street, manufacturing, especially if the auto industry was included in the package, and provide a major stimulus to retailers prior to Christmas and perhaps open up the banks to increase credit.
All of this is going to happen anyway, why wait until January?
It would be a wise move by the President and might very well improve his approval rating, that is if he cares.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackThe only team in Washington that uses a two minute drill is the Redskins. No Hail Mary passes after the clock has run out. A joint meeting between Bush’s team and Obama’s team to result in a major stimulus package including a solution to the automobile crisis and the freeing of credit from the banks that would stimulate consumer spending that would pass a Democratic controlled Congress to be accomplished in two weeks.
I wonder what the Las Vegas line would be on that one. A bet on the Detroit Lions winning the Super Bowl is more realistic.
You’re right, it’s a Hail Mary pass. But what else is left? We are on the road to socialism, capitalism is a thing of the past for the immediate future with the incoming administration. The future says the Government is running today’s business because, we the taxpayers, by government decree, will have an interest in a major portion of Wall Street, financial institutions, manufacturing and everything else but small business, which provides the major portion of jobs in this country. Perhaps the line being drawn in the sand is in the wrong place. I am not for taking this road less traveled, but every once in a while the Hail Mary works, Doug Flute knows that very well.
