I’m bias. But I thought Sarah Palin took Joe Biden Caribou hunting in tonight’s VP debate and tried to teach him to shoot straight, although his facts were off the mark on several counts.
Now, to be fair and balanced I said in the first Presidential debate that McCain took Obama to the woodshed. And I believe that was the case. But not everybody agreed with me.
Although Biden did what he had to do — hold his own. But, in holding his own, I thought he lost, dramatically.
Palin demonstrated that she was comfortable in her environment; she was enthusiastic and delivered her message points on target. Middle America reacted, “she’s just like us.”
Most of the night Biden referenced votes in Congress — Obama/Biden v McCain and in many instances Biden inaccurately portrayed McCain’s position. Biden made at least 10 factual mistakes, according to those measuring points on the basis of the accuracy of statements.
And Palin called him on each false premise.
I thought Biden was more on the defensive than the offensive.
The Palin reaction from people watching in Middle America was interesting with words such as “feisty, informal, forceful, knowledgeable and no mistakes.”
The media set Palin up to fail after her interviews with Katie Couric of CBS News, but she showed what a comeback point guard can due when under pressure.
She delivered match point and won the set.
As I have said before perception is reality — the perception is that Sarah Palin won the match.
I can not sign off without giving my complements to the Moderator, Gwen Ifill, of PBS, who has written a pro-Obama book, yet to be published, and did a very objective job as an arbiter. I called for her to step down but she showed that she can be a very objective journalist/moderator even though her leanings are left wing.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackWell the most accurate statement of this news piece that you made is that “you are biased”. My own feeling is that I have a slight favor to the democrats in this years campaign, I would agree that Biden mislead everyone with many of his answers. Biden made some unjust comparisons. However, the same was done by Palin. I thought Palin did a much better job selling herself than I would have expected but Biden’s long term in politics showed on the stage and proved him to be a better debater. This debate certainly confirmed for me that everyone in Politics only have one goal and that is to do anything that is necesary, with or without honor and integrity, to get elected. I would only hope that someday you dropped the republican idiology and looked more objectively at politics. I think I get the most accurate reporting of US politics on the BBC or RAI. In closing My vote will be based unfortunately on “who lies the least”. To be honest I’d take Sarah Palin as the governor of my state over Corzine but not as VP. AND THAT’S MY CALL!
Thank you for your comment. However, I must correct you on one fundamental point, my column was not a ‘news piece’ it was editorial opinion with identifiable bias. My home page is listed as Columns/Opinion/Satire. The column ‘Socko’ was identified as ‘Political Analysis’ and that’s what it was, not much different from your comment with declared Democratic leanings. If you wanted to see so called objective news reports on the debate, you would have to go to News of The Day where ‘news’ reports appear from the mainstream media. However don’t expect to see objective reporting here either. Allow me to give you some journalistic history on objective reporting. I was a reporter for the Morristown Daily Record when John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon were running for office. As you know Kennedy won. The interesting analysis from that period of time was that Nixon received more editorial endorsements across the nation than Kennedy, but when media watchdogs examined the hard news reporting, editorial slants in favor of Kennedy appeared in news reports that were supposed to be objective. There is no such thing as objective reporting today. Although one should expect it on page one, its not there. Columns and editorials are what they are — personal views, and should be so identified. We have a left wing media as demonstrated by the New York Times, a mouth piece for Obama, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, PBS, and yes even BBC. Yes, one might identify Fox as leaning to the right in its reporting, but they pride themselves in the words ‘fair and balanced’ and they do present both sides of the story with representative spokespersons from both sides of a party or issue. We are all entitled to an opinion, but it shouldn’t be under the guise of news.
Your comments are well taken. I sincerely appreciate your clarification and buy into it totally. Opinion under the guise of news is the object of my dissatisfaction with news coverage. The average Joe has a lot of deciphering to due when listening to political news coverage. You make it obvious that you’re offering opinion and it is written as opinion very clearly. Separating news fact from news opinion is less obvious in national print and television media and Americans casts their votes based largely on slanted, self-serving opinion. I guess I hope to find objective non-biased news and opinion in media.
