The morning after Sarah Palin drew some 60,000 persons to a rally at The Villages outside of Orlando Florida yesterday, Barack Obama sat down with Joe Biden to discuss some future strategy.

According to sources inside the Obama campaign, the conversations went something like this:

“Joe as you know this Palin phenomenon is gaining momentum.  I don’t know if you saw it or not but she drew 60,000 at The Villages out of 90,000 residents and the Palin dolls are selling off the shelves.  What we need Joe is Plan B.”

“Barack what is it that you are suggesting?”

“Well Joe I’m not suggesting anything at this point, but I think we need to have a strategy if things begin to go south.”

“You know Joe; you yourself said during this campaign that Hillary Clinton would have been a better selection than you.”

“But Barack, that was just political rhetoric.”

“Well Joe, I guess the question here is whether you will do the best thing for your country if it becomes necessary?”

“You know I will do that, what do you have in mind.”

“Well our strategists have come up with Plan B.  We will assess how well you do against Palin after the Vice Presidential Debates on October 2.  If you do well and the polls reflect this, we will stay the course.  However, if we go down in the polls, the strategists are suggesting that you resign due to health problems.

“As you know, historically this would not be an unprecedented move, VP nominee; Tom Eagleton resigned due to health problems.”

“But Barack, he resigned due to mental health problems . . . I don’t have any mental health problems.”

“Joe, let’s not split hairs you have had neurological disease, both conditions fall in the same medical category.  You have had surgery for two aneurysms and after the last one you didn’t return to the Senate until seven months after diagnosis.”

“Barack, do you think the public is not going to see this for what it is a grand manipulative maneuver?”

“I don’t know Joe, it seems quite credible to me.  I mean after all, Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones just recently died of a ruptured brain aneurysm. Furthermore it is well known in medical circles that patients with a history of brain aneurysms can sometimes develop new ones. By the way Joe, did you know that in our history seven Vice Presidents died in office?

“Joe, the plan would be — that is if we had to execute this strategy — that you would resign on October 5.  We would promote you as the patriot you are and you would be portrayed as a hero who stepped up to the plate for his country and his party.  As for the campaign, it is anticipated that we would get a major bump in the polls, pick-up 18 million of Hillary’s votes and it would probably set-up the Obama-Clinton ticket for a major election landslide.”

“Think about it Joe, we are not going to rush into any decisions . . . it is just an option.”
