Yes, out of the mouth of babes, a 7-year-old tripped up Obama today with the question of, “Why are you running for president?”

You would think that this was a puff ball question from an NBC reporter promoting the next President of the United States, but it wasn’t,  and I am sure the 7-year-old meant nothing by it, but Obama said, “America is . . . uh, is no longer, uh . . . what it could be, what it once was.  And I say to myself, I don’t want that future for my children.”

He must have been thinking where is my teleprompter and the script from which I read so well after he thought about what he uttered extemporaneosly.  He doesn’t do well off-the-cuff, in case you haven’t noticed.

It was reminiscent of his wife, Michele’s comment, “Let me tell you something, for the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country, because it feels like hope is making a come back.”

Of course this comment was also made on a campaign stump after her husband announced his candidacy for President.

As a septuagenarian, a journalist and one who has served his country, I am offended by these racist comments.  Yes this is the way I see them because you and your wife cannot respect the past and where we have come from and what we have overcome.  Our country has evolved for the better and we as Americans have supported our evolution and we have been proud of what we have accomplished.  We have respected our constitution, our form of government, the right to speak our mind, and we have always respected our leaders that we have voted into office through a democratic process.

I am sorry that you and your wife do not see this for what it has been, always will be, without you seemingly want to make it better than what it already is.  You see your face on the dollar bill will not change anything, if you so succeed, I will respect you for the office to which you were elected.

But in your process, don’t put down what made it possible to be where you are — be grateful for it.
