As political correctness takes hold in the US — which is an abomination of common sense — women like Cynthia Good, editor of Pink Magazine who is looking for some publicity in changing Men At Work signs to Workers Ahead makes the point that signs today should be gender-neutral.
She has succeeded in making the point in Atlanta Georgia, where they are going to change the road signs to gender-neutral because as she claims, half of the Public Works employees are women — but I doubt if they are working down in the ditches.
Now Cynthia is going to take this issue nationally. Don’t we have better things to do with our time? It smacks of a publicity gimmick for Pink Magazine, and unfortunately it is working.
The fact of the matter on a national basis 96% of workers on the road are men. That leaves 4% of women out there, and they are probably flag wavers.
Now Cynthia is calling this issue with words sexist, but it doesn’t stop there. We are now having trouble with the black hole — you know that thing in the atmosphere that let’s that bad stuff rain on us? Well there is a group now that is calling this racist rather than a scientific finding.
And there are those that have problems with Angel Cake, which is white as compared to Devil Cake which is black.
Is the English language totally going to change because of social, political, sexist and racial correctness?
My god what would we call Manhattan?
There is a story out there about a man dating an American Indian and he said to her that he was going to make a reservation for dinner and she broke off the date.
All of this on the heals of Jessie Jackson’s political correctness comment in wanting to “cut off the N**s of Barack Obama because of his position on faith based charities and talking down to blacks.
And so we are at an age where everyone, according to some, should be cognizant in a political, racist, sexist way about what we say.
That doesn’t seem to be happening, in fact, it seems that misspoken words followed by apologies are more the norm than what one might call the spoken words of correctness.
I for one would like to see the Manhole renamed to a gender-neutral cover — or if the women of this world would like to have this as their legacy they are welcomed to it.
