One of the persons on the short list for Obama’s Vice President was Gen. Wesley Clark, until his comment this weekend about John McCain. Clark a military adviser for Barack Obama questioned Sunday whether McCain’s military experience qualified him to be commander in chief.
Clark a presidential wannabe, supporter of Clinton now a military adviser to Obama said he was referring to McCain’s experience, or lack thereof, in setting national security policies and understanding the risk involved in such matters.
“He hasn’t been there and ordered the bombs to fall. He hasn’t seen what it’s like when diplomats come in and say, “I don’t know whether we’re going to be able to get this point through or not,’” Clark said.
McCain’s campaign office called the comment, “the lowest form of politics.”
Obama’s campaign on Monday issued a response. “As he’s said many times before, Sen. Obama honors and respects Sen. McCain’s service, and of course he rejects yesterday’s statement by Gen. Clark.”
Obama spends an awful amount of time rejecting comments from people he surrounds himself with. It has to make one think about who he would surround himself with if he were President, his cabinet, his Secretary of Defense, Homeland Security, Secretary of State or those that he might appoint to the Supreme Court.?
And so as he does continuously, he back peddles for his surrogates’ remarks as though we don’t know that he knows what they are going to say before they make their blunders.
In a speech about patriotism Monday, with flag lapel pin on his suit, Obama did not directly address Clark’s comments, but after calling attention to McCain’s service, he said, “No one should ever devalue that service, especially for the sake of a political campaign, and that goes for supporters of both sides.”
Clark most likely shot himself in the foot for the VP slot and that’s okay, because he wouldn’t make a good dog catcher.
But Obama’s track record in surrounding himself with sold people continues to come into question.
