Candidates for President always like to look, appear and present themselves as being presidential, but Sen. Barack Obama came off looking sophomoric yesterday when he addressed a meeting of Democratic Governors in Chicago from a podium adorned with a new mock Presidential seal.
The seal sported iconography used in the U.S. presidential seal, the blue background, the eagle clutching arrows on left and olive branch on right, but with symbolic differences.
Instead of the Latin ‘E pluribus unum’ (Out of many one), Obama’s says ‘Vero possumus’, rough Latin for ‘Yes, we can.’ Instead of ‘Seal of the President of the United States’ , Obama’s Web site address is listed. And instead of a shield, Obma’s eagle wears his ‘O’ campaign logo with a rising sun representing hope ahead. And on the top of the logo it reads ‘Obama for America.’
The media gave the Obama seal the coverage the campaign headquarters was looking for, but for me it looked like a high school sophomore running for class president. The seal represents what the Obama campaign is all about, conceit and over confidence of knowledge, but truly poorly informed and immature.
I don’t know who came up with this sophomoric idea, but they sure wrapped up Obama’s lack of experience and maturity in one photo-op. It wasn’t the first of Obama’s campaign blunders and I’m sure it won’t be the last.
