Ego seems to be the driving force in politics. If this were not the case we would have more talent than we have running for the highest office in this land.
People with common sense, do not want to be President of the United States or even a Senator or Congressman, they want to behave with decorum as ladies and gentlemen.
Does this mean they don’t want to serve their country, not at all, many talented people have, both in the military and in appointed office, and have made sacrifices to do so when they could have pursued more lucrative careers.
The Clinton’s, yes both Hillary and Bill, wanted to be back in the White House so bad they were picking out the draperies long before she had the nomination that now seems to be eluding her.
Now that it appears to be all over and Barack Obama is the obvious winner, by the math, the ego, continues to kick in.
For how do you make a graceful exit? Well the Clinton’s ego, ambition and declaration of entitlement is so strong and powerful, Bill thinks her wife has earned nothing short of an offer to be Obama’s running mate, according to a report in Time Magazine, who is sourcing some who are close to the former President.
Bill is so bent on creating a dynasty greater then the Kennedy’s or Bush’s, he even suggested his daughter Chelsea for President in 2016 based upon her campaigning for her mother.
Now I hope that was more of a pun than a serious comment — but I doubt it.
There doesn’t seem to be any question that Hillary is making a play for a place on the ticket, banging away at the theme that it is only she that can beat McCain. Her popular votes in key states support this contention.
Insiders according to the Time report say that some Clinton strategists are doubtful that Obama will offer to make her his running mate — in no small part because that would mean bringing Bill aboard.
You bet, that’s what Bill has in mind. It’s all about the ego, which gets in the way of common sense, judgment and intelligence, no matter the IQ.
And so how do you surrender gracefully without bruising one’s ego so badly that you’re no longer a player?
A graceful exit in this hard fought battle for the Democratic Presidential nomination doesn’t seem possible, any more than an Obama, Clinton ticket with tag-along Bill.
Even if Bill didn’t tag along, the Dems would be confronted with a first of major proportions, serving up the first Black President and the first female VP as nominees.
The Dems need to carefully examine such a nomination — is the American public ready for such a ticket, and what happened to Obama’s campaign for ‘Change.?’
