Somehow there just doesn’t seem to be much justice in the world.
In case you haven’t heard British Prince Harry, third in line for the throne, has been serving on active combat for the past two months in Afghanistan.
The 23-year-old Household Cavalry officer was actually involved in some gun battles and on New Year’s Eve he dropped some bombs on the enemy. He was allowed to operate within sight of enemy positions, calling in air strikes and carrying out aerial surveillance of Taliban trenches and bunker systems.
We haven’t seen media coverage like this, since the likes of Audie Murphy,; in fact they are calling Harry a hero.
The Ministry of Defense praised the British press for keeping Harry’s deployment secret until the foreign media leaked it.
But now that he has been outed, it is more than likely he is already on his way home, not just to protect him, but the troops he serves with. He himself said, “I would never want to put someone else’s life in danger by being a bullet magnet.”
And so he achieved some of his wishes, “This gives me my best chance to be normal . . . all my wishes have come true,” says Harry.
He said that his brother William wrote to tell me our mother “would be proud.”
Harry says he was told by the Queen he would go to war.
The Prince dismissed fears that he will be a “bullet magnet,” swore he does not miss “anything” — and according to the British press, made no reference to girlfriend Chelsy Davy.
And so, never before has so much been made over so little. I just couldn’t help, while reviewing this story and the play it got today, thinking about our soldiers, sailors, marines, air force and coast guard serving 15 month tours of duty, 12 months at home, and then back on the firing line, and the lack of coverage they get — except when they come home in a body bag.
There just doesn’t seem to be any justice — in fact, the media doesn’t even know our boy’s girlfriends names.
