The Sunshine State has served up 4 of the top 10 beaches in the US according to TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel community.

In fact Florida took the top two slots leading off with Fort De Soto Park’s North Beach in Tierra Verde.  This beach is just south of St. Petersburg and is a portrait of tranquility with a spectacular combination of soft white sand, calm and clear water and a laid back atmosphere.  In addition to the beautiful wide beach, travelers can also enjoy the areas wildlife and the 105 year-old fort for which the park is named.

Coming in second was St. Andrew’s State Park in Panama City Florida.  This is another pristine beach on Florida’s Gulf Coast.  It is a mile-and-a-half long beach with a child-friendly area in their calm “Grand Lagoon,” and visitors can also ferry out to nearby Shell Island for great snorkeling.

Third place went to Kailua Beach Park in Kailua, Hawaii.  It s a classic Hawaiian beach and features gorgeous turquoise waters, powder white sad and palm trees peppering its broad coastline.

Cumberland Island National Seashore in Cumberland Island, Georgia came in fourth.  It boasts miles of peaceful and quite beachfront and has a uniquely isolated, undiscovered feel.

The third Florida beach and coming in fifth, was South Beach in Miami, Florida.  It is hip, sexy and unparalleled.  Its beach is stunning, with warm waters and some of the best restaurants, resorts and nightclubs nearby.

Back to Hawaii for sixth place and its Tunnels Beach  in Kauai.  It is renowned for its outstanding snorkeling.  It features cream-colored sands, a protected half-moon reef, and unbelievable views– particularly the sunsets.

And it’s back to the Gulf Coast of Florida for seventh place and Pensacola Beach in Pensacola Florida.  This is a popular family destination with gentle waves and soft sand.  Pensacola Beach offers an amazingly relaxed atmosphere and it is perfect for swimming, boating and collecting shells.

Hunting Island State Park in Beaufort South Carolina came in eighth.  It is part of a lush and protected nature reserve on a secluded barrier island and is home to a variety of wildlife.

And for ninth place we go to Torrey Pines State Beach in San Diego California.  It has stunning 300-foot sandstone cliffs towering over golden sands and Pacific waters — it is a California classic.

And for 10th place we go back to Hawaii for the third time and its Waimea Bay Beach Park in Oahu.  It boasts clear waters and soft, fine-grain said and is renowned for its gigantic winter waves made famous in surfing films.  This stunning destination is best enjoyed in the summer months when its clear waters are at their calmest.
