CNN) — Sen. John McCain wins the Florida Republican primary, CNN projects based on election results and exit polling, edging out rival Mitt Romney.

With 51 percent of Republican precincts reporting, McCain and Romney each had slightly more than 30 percent of the vote. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani was about 15 points behind, followed by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Sen. Hillary Clinton will win the largely uncontested Democratic primary, CNN projected.

With about 48 percent of Democratic precincts reporting, Clinton had 51 percent of the vote. Illinois Sen. Barack Obama was in second with 30 percent, and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards was in third with 16 percent.

DS: Sources are saying that Giuliani will endorse McCain tomorrow. Giuliani strategy to focus on Florida, in retrospect, was a mistake.

Romney says Washington is broken and we should not send the same old politicians back into the same old chairs.

“The source of America’s greatness is the American people,” says Romney.

“Our victory may not have reached a landside victory, but it is sweet nontheless,” McCain said in his victory speech.

“I want to thank my dear friend Rudy Giuliani who invested his heart and soul in this campaign,” said McCain.

McCain says he’s proud to be a ‘conservative republican.’

McCain played up the importance of keeping the country safe in his victory speech adding, we must defend the nation wisely.
