After being on the verge of tears Monday, Hillary Clinton was all smiles Tuesday after eking out Barack Obama by two percentage points in the New Hamshire primary.
Which means we still have a chance of seeing Hillary as the presidential nominee of the Democratic party.
I was truly concerned after the Iowa results when she came in a poor third.
You see, I think Hillary as the Democratic nominee is the only chance the Republicans have of keeping the White House.
Meanwhile John McCain easily won his party’s primary over second-place Mitt Romney.
McCain supporters chanted “Mack is back,” while Clinton supporters shouted “comeback kid.”
“Over the last week, I listened to you, and in the process I found my own voice,” Clinton said to a crowd of young supporters. “Now together, let’s give America the kind of comback that New Hampshire has just given me.”
Meanwhile 71-year-old McCain said, “I’m past the age when I can claim the noun ‘kid’ no matter what adjective preceds it, but we sure showed them what a comeback looks like,” he said.
And so all are off and running to the next primary, and we conservatives still have a chance, perhaps, to see Hillary be the Dems nominee and allow her to show the America electorate what she would have in store for us if she were elected President.
Basically this is where Clinton stands on the major issues:
Iraq: phased withdrawal within 60 days of taking office, with troops out by 2013.
Health Care: require everyone to obtain health insurance.
Taxes: Repeal the Bush tax cuts for households earning more than $250,000.
Detainees: Transfer prisoners to a civilan or military facility.
Interrogation: Opposed to waterboarding. Departing from international conventions a presidential decision to maintain security.
Immigration: Make it easier for immigrants to bring families. Was for driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants, but now opposes it.
Energy: Invest $150 billion over the next 10 years to cut oil imports by two-thirds from 2030 projected levels.
Climate: Would establish a cap-and-trade system to reduce carbon emissions 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050.
I don’t think America is ready for Hillary’s version of “comeback, experience or change.”
Making change for change sake is one thing, but going back rather than forward, to a Clinton era of errors of ommision, dishonesty, back-door deals , disingenuous government, sleeze and a lack of security for Americans, is not where I believe, the American people want to be.
